Number plate recognition will tell police that say a green landrover plate number 123 ABC is taxed and insured but it dosnt say if its that one ? If the Police do an ANPR check with a camera as long as registration matches the type of vehicle and its shown as being insured and MOT'd then it will pass, only where the vehicle is ANPR'd in York but is registered in Cardiff for example would thispotentiall warrent further investigation by the Police who may choose to stop it and question the driver about the vehicle which is when the exact details would be checked. Yes you do because you cant get a tax disc without both Insurance and MOT only have to be valid on the day you buy your tax disc. They could be invalid for the other 364 days.
