Joe1888 672
Had kelt out on the lamp for the third time, typical learning progress for her and me, some of the previous ones missed have been poor choices of slips. Tonight she seemed to be using the lamp more, still having problems with her hunting up after a miss ( any advice/help appreciated). After a miss she was nightmare to get back, was really testing patience... Because of that some rabbits got away/f****d off, finaly got her back.. It was getting to the point were i was all for calling it a night, decided to have one more try.. After abit of searching found a good slip for her, after a good run, few turns she finaly got first... In the end, am well chuffed. Still alot of work/time to put in, but seeing her catch first has made it worth while.. Looking foward to coming season Quote Link to post
R.A.W 1,987
I'd be doing a fair bit of recall then move up to recall in the dark with no scent about or you could end up with a bitch that will hunt up all the time and be no use to you on the lamp. Running before you can walk springs to mind but I don't know you or your dog. Your in charge so choose the right run in the right field. You want something in the seat in a open enough field with no brows and a good hedge, the pup pulls at release. Quote Link to post
Joe1888 672
No problem, thanks for the reply. Her recall in house/garden is 100%, out and about through the day if am honest 60%.. Some of its trial and error mate, will hopefully get there in the end. Quote Link to post
Wayne Andrew 38
Im having the same problem with my bitch joe was out the other night and got myself a rabbit sitting tight in its seat but there was rabbits running all about, got to about ten feet away from the squatter and I was sure she saw it well obviously not coz I slipped her and she bolted after the rabbits sittin at the hedgerow was feckin fuming with her but in hindsight cant blame the bitch for being keen to get at em she just chose the wrong one hahaha practice makes perfect mate im just gonna get her out as often as I can and hope she gets it in the end don't think your doing anything wrong it just takes time to learn the game of running the beam keep on keepin on mate a.t.b Quote Link to post
RossM 8,149
Aye joe pick your runs, give her the best chance of a catch therefore reducing her want to hunt up and find something else to run, next time your going out let me know and I'll tag along if you want, 1 Quote Link to post

bunnyboiler 1,054
It doesn't help lamping on light nights it's just like daytime hunting to a dog give it a week until the new moons here with a bit of rain and wind and pick a nice squatter far out in the middle of the field make sure the dog see's as if you pass one running for cover the dog will be all hyped up and run to where it last seen it run ATB BB Quote Link to post
terryd 8,919
With the squatters it might help as well to make a slight noise of some sort so the dog gets to know its needs to look close Edited August 20, 2014 by terryd Quote Link to post
