Rez 4,961
Against the grain write up here. Just got back from my shoot with jack all. Thought an early start would prove a good idea, but the heavy rain last night hasn't helped the productivity. Rabbits were far to jumpy, any feathered targets just weren't about so took some pix instead. The only thing I actually shot. Do your own permission have 'best times' to be about? 2 Quote Link to post
chrismdd 787
Still good to be out though. I find if we've had a lot of rain the first dry evening sees a lot of rabbits out early round here. Also something I've noticed is that at this time of the year early evening sees a lot of rabbits out then as the light fades there are a lot less around until well into darkness when they venture out again. My only conclusion from this is that with the fading light foxes are out on the prowl of the hedgelines with their keen eyesight but eventually in full darkness the rabbits can remain hidden from view. Mister Gain 1,764
I think we all go through spells like that. My permission was never easy, but it is getting harder. Used to stalk around and pick them off, but they would see you first and all you saw was a white arse dissappearing down a hole. I went through a spell of 6 blanks for 1 shot... and that hit a twig which I couldn't see through the scope. I still have a mooch round first though, and spot which warrens are most active, and then get plotted up and pick off one or two and move on. It's just good to get out into the countryside TBH. 1 Quote Link to post

samboy 317
I have more bad days than good but as said it is nice to be out. Better than being in a stinking bed, or is it ?. Quote Link to post
villaman 9,982
I think we all have days like that ,but at the moment down on my permissions rabbits are every where , in fact I counted over 100 rabbits on the neighbours field and I am asking for permissions to shoot on Monday 1 Quote Link to post

The one 8,551
Day two of rain here and im giving it a bye theres nothing worse than lamping and decoying in the rain i must be getting old I dont think the rabbits come out in heavy cover after rain as they get wet i see a big difference in rabbit numbers on the shorter verges after rain i think maybe they just stay in and eat there own pellets ?. 1 Quote Link to post
RemyBolt 420
We've all had those sessions. I had about 3 or 4 write ups where I was after just this one rabbit that kept evading me. But I look back and think...damn it was good being out in the fresh air. Quote Link to post
silentshot1 206
Evenings are the best time on my permission, but I have certainly had my share of blanks. Part and parcel of what we do I guess, far more fun than being dragged round John Lewis though! 1 Quote Link to post
