Yellowhammer....

To start with, they're real nervous birds. they're not like your average hardbill, it takes a special sort of 'hammer to 'relax' in human company. They go down much later than the rest of the birds and with the guys I've spoken to, they all seem to think that they are not an easy bird to breed....I got lucky I guess...

They were in a large aviary with a stream running through it. In flights that were 8ftX 3 ft X 6ft. they need ground cover for nesting, but I have had them go down in nest baskets too, which is unusual. Lots and lots of livefood needed before they come into true condition.

I have the pleasure of watching 20 or 30 of them every morning feeding my fowl.

I mix a soaked dog biscuit through the grain and it seems to be that they want.

Beautiful birds.

I never liked to see them in flights as they never seemed to show themselves but you JD seem to have the knack.
