DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
All right people. A good friend of mine was granted his sgc about 6 months ago and went for his fac recently as well. His sgc went really well got on great with the firearms officer. He had 3 police cautions 10/15 years ago for kids stuff, so had a letter with his certificate basically saying stay out of trouble. But his fac interview didn't go so well, he got 3 points on his driving licence for a minor driving offence recently after being granted his sgc. He got a full on, half hour bollocking and he said to be honest the fao was quite rude, a totally different man from the previous interview, Constantly repeating his self about how irresponsible his actions will be seen. Scribbled loads of bits out on his application and flicked through the pages way to fast to properly go through it. Calibres and land was hardly discussed. The fao said he would be surprised if anything was granted, my mate is devastated! And a bit worried about his sgc. Any of you lot been refused a ticket or had any revocations for silly minor driving offences.? Any advice about how an appeal works if he is turned down? He said he will call the basc if he is refused.... Cheers... Edited February 27, 2014 by DeerhoundLurcherMan Quote Link to post

As far as I am aware, speeding offences are irrelevant to an application, provided you declare them. If he didn't declare, that may cause issues. 1 Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
Thanks BB, just spoke to him, he said he didn't get the points till after sending his fac application. I told him to ring BASC tomorrow... Cheers Quote Link to post
TWOTWOTHREE 152
Never heard of a revoke over speeding points only on a drink drive charge.as they said if he was foolish enough to drink and drive he's possibly just as likely to use the guns drunk.on a renewal I forgot to mention a speeding fine/points I had, i only remembered when filling in the app for a variation a year later.but nothing was said but i did apologise, it just never crossed my mind.hope he gets sorted, Atb 1 Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
I would think speeding points would only go as anecdotal evidence, as one of the factors amongst many, to show his level of responsibility / respect for the law, nothing else. I can't see how in themselves they can make a person unsuitable. I certainly can't see how 3 points for a minor offence make you unsuitable either as probably 50% of the population are on 3 points during any 5 year period. I think it would take a pretty bad licence to show he was prone to reckless behaviour. Edited February 27, 2014 by Alsone 2 Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
This is a case of a bullying feo, flexing his imaginary muscles, he is probably anti shooting/firearms, I would advise your mate to speak to his shooting org, and also to speak to the firearms licensing manager in his area, and raise his concerns with him/her, as this clearly demonstrates a lack of professionalism, and courtesy, 3 points is bugger all, I would like to take a bet that 30-40% of the firearms team in his area have points for speeding ect. 1 Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
I said to him I doubt if I got 3 points on my driving licence, that they would revoke my ticket, so it would be unfair not to grant him his for the same 3 points.... Quote Link to post

Born Hunter 17,960
The FEO sounds like a prick! They wont revoke your driving license for 3 points so why would they decline a FAC. LOL 2 Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
The feo came round to me when I got arrested last year and was sound, and my fac interview he was full of advice ect, couldn't fault him. But other local lads that have dealt with him say hes a prick. Maybe he has bad days.... Ill get my pal to read through what you lot have said and tell him to phone basc. Cheers 1 Quote Link to post
delswal 3,819
if ya pal values a F.A.C then joining b.a.s.c is good value …… if he has good reason for possessing a firearm and suitable land , a driving offence such as speeding will not affect his application FACT ……i got mine whilst have 9 points ………… 2 Quote Link to post
yellowdog 12
3 points? try finding people with a clean licence these days. I bet over 1/2 the police in his area have 3 points. Indeed I know of coppers who have had full on driving bans (though they got disciplined its not always a sacking offence) You can loose your FAC ticket before you loose your driving licence though through driving offences, it just depends on for what and were. If he reacted badly to the mention of those points that is another matter. 1 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,491
I had 3 points for speeding at my recent renewal, I also had 3 points for speeding (different of course) at my previous renewal. Not an issue, but I don't have any previous record for anything (except minor motoring). 1 Quote Link to post
