Just Rang A Mate Who I Remember Had Similar Symptoms With His Bitch , Has Your Dog Got A Cut ? As His Was Created By Air Getting Into A Cut , He Had Her At Vets & Massaged Her For A Couple Off Weeks Basically Pushing the Air Out Through The Cut , Felt Like Bubble Wrap Was How He Described The Feeling . . This May Not Be The Same As Your Dogs Mate But Thought Id Put It Up , All The Best With The Dog Mate.

Just heard from skycat hope she doesn't mind me putting her reply up very interesting and may help some one else in the future ....Do you mean air under her skin? Has she got a cut/wound somewhere near her groin area, or in the web between hind leg and body?

If you do, then make sure the wound is clean, and keep her pretty quiet until the wound has healed over: many of my dogs have had it: the worst areas to be ripped are in the groin area, under the 'armpits' of the front leg, but they can get it anywhere there is a wound that sucks in air. Each time the dog moves it sucks in more air. Even had it all up a front leg after a puncture wound low down on the leg.

The good news is that once the wound has sealed over the air will gradually get reabsorbed by the body and the dog will recover just fine, but you must keep the dog as quiet as possible until this happens or it just goes on sucking air into the wound.

It doesn't appear to be particularly painful unless it covers a lot of the body, but as with anything, keep an eye on things to make sure it doesn't get any worse, or the dog seems to be in pain: in which case see a vet.

Air under the skin can also be a symptom of something very dangerous is if the dog has ruptured a lung, usually after a bad impact, and a rib has broken into the lung. If there is no external wound through which air can be sucked under the skin then I'd see a vet as soon as possible.

Other causes can be an anaerobic bacterial infection under the skin: say from an infection after a tiny puncture wound which has sealed over and you haven't noticed.

So, to sum up: if you have found a wound, then the chances are it is just air and will go away once the wound seals shut and no more air can get in. If you can't find a wound anywhere, then see a vet!

Hope this helps

Penny
