NEWKID 28,441
A friend of mine had to put his company into administration this week, because of a couple of wankers... we do a fair bit of work for them, as they are a decent building firm with a good history, 2 jobs took them after 10 years of building the firm up, they had stacks of work infront of them as well..... the main reason is a c**ts trick, just not paying and playing the law ( it helps when your a lawyer) until you strangle the company... We could have been badly hurt by this ourselves but these lads are old school and I'll be forever grateful.. Leaves a bitter taste in your mouth though, and keeps you on your toes... robbo 874
Unfortunately kev there are too many people about who are only too willing to rob a working bloke. All too often its the ones who can easily afford to pay who know how to get away without doing so. Been had a couple of times myself whilst self employed.

Malt 379
That's just it Jim and Bry, they got taken by a bloke who could easily pay the bill, but knew how not too... b*****d.. Know one slippery twat who used to try to do that to every trade he hired to do a job for him.. Bloke was a rental property owner, had properties being rented out everywhere... Had a coloured concrete pattern print drive done at his own place once, huge, £18 grands worth. Seen it myself, stunning job. He said he weren't going to pay because there were a few hairline cracks here and there. Boys took him to court for the money, and some court appointed building expert examined it and said it was one of the best he'd ever seen. Slippery twat was forced to pay + interest and costs incurred. 18 grand turned into 27 grand he had to pay.. That was just the big one where he got his comeuppance, he'd caught loads of other local boys for small couple of hundred - a grand type jobs over the years until they all caught wind of him and started to steer clear.. One plumber ordered his boys back into a job to strip out once when he refused to pay, he soon changed his tune!
NEWKID 28,441
Malt, we finished an extension onto a privately owned shopping precinct about 3 months ago, a real b*****d of a job, with one valley gutter having to be weathered against a glazed walkway, now this area would not stop leaking... we've filled the gutter, no leaks, changed the flashings and water tested no leaks, but every time it rained it would f*****g leak... so we've had our last payment stopped + they've got retention, it's a fair chunk of money, considering we put the steel frame up and an aluminium roof on top... We get a glazing company out, first thing he says is the glazed roof is a curtain wall, when they open it we're finding water runs inside of the glazing everywhere.. now this is out of our line of work and f**k all to do with us as it's an existing problem, we all agree on a way of solving it that will cost the owner..... now I ask for my money ( minus the retention for 12 months).... oh no he says we tested the gutter and it's still leaking.... Now what stinks about all of this is the extension isn't leased yet, so my guess is he doesn't want to solve the problem cause that would involve paying on something he can't lease... another prick.... the worst thing is the alarm bells were ringing from the first days measure, I should know by now to listen to it.... Dave, if the lads who went weren't decent, we would have been taken for nearly 19k... we would have seen f**k all once all the creditors were payed... we've taken a little knock still, but he came and saw me last week and he was gutted, probably 15 blokes lost there jobs plus all the subbies they had going.... Your only ever one bad debt away in our game mate as you know..

WILF 49,767
The building game has always been the same, its shocking really.........remember years back when all the lads were going to Germany to work, a few lads told me that the main contractors wouldn't dare knock the Dutch firms or they just rocked up and stuck a gun in the main mans mouth !!
