Dogs Sixth Sense

Recommended Posts

can a dog sense when another dog has something wrong with it :hmm: this might sound strange but i have 2 dogs that have lived, worked and been kenneled together for nearly six years with very little hassle, in the last couple of days one has developed a problem that could be life ending, now the strange thing is the other dog has attacked him 3 times in the last couple of days since he has started showing a weakness in one leg, today i have had to separate them into individual kennels, in the past they would have whinged like cnuts to get put back together but tonight not a peep :hmm:

yes they can .... soon as they sense one getting weaker the other will try and take over as alpha , thats what you are seeing happen

Any member of a pack that is ill or weak will be killed by other pack members. They're a liability to the welfare of the pack. Hounds do it all the time.   I'm not saying this happens in every case

put it this way if they can sniff out cancer..................a weakness would be no problem to a dog too find.........

i dont see why not.

although they have been kenneled together all that one of them would be the boss if its the one that isnt very well, then the other will try and take advantage of the situation and become top dog.

he is already top dog :hmm:

when a battle for position happens then both will gesture and posture then fight until one backs down but this is different the old dog doesn't even growl he just instantly submits. lowers his head. no eye contact and pisses

I'm not saying this happens in every case with domestic dog packs or pairs but it's what's happening here.

Yes seen it several times in multi dog households/kennels Paulus. Had it once with my own dogs, weakness is a chink in the armour. Natures cruel and dogs are no exception.

Another strange one is when a dog has a seizure the other dogs can often turn on it and kill it, it happens.
