64 Year Old Swims 103 Miles

Recommended Posts

The thing that always staggers me with this swimming lark, she doesn't exactly look the picture of athleticism but is clearly a shit load fitter than me. Same as half these feckers down the pool, christ when some of them get in there's a bow wave the length of the pool yet they're like bloody untiring torpedos when they swim!

It's one sport where you really can't judge a book by it's cover.

An amazing achievement!

On a similar note, anybody heard the paralympic gold medalist Richard Whitehead is half way through running the length of Britain, 40 marathons in 40 days! :icon_eek:

Epic swim, especially for a woman her age... Dangerous waters for sure.

Near 53 hours of constant motion/exercise in salt water, you can only imagine how tough that is on mind, body and soul... I've done a bit of this in my time so I have an idea but that lady is phenomenal....

Some people like to TEST themselfs to the limit.

Fairplay to her i say.

It is definatley some Achievment.

Yes some do... But the task was IMO a stupid one as she had already failed a few times and she could have easily died.

Now that she's done it its all good and well done but if she had been eaten by a shark we would all have been silly "silly old c**t".

Absolutely right its a funny one swimming ive never quite cracked it........i can never understand how some people can pretty much just float.......i have to flap about all over the place just to avoid death !!............My mrs can barely run to the end of the street but she can swim lengths of a pool all day long

Got to be something in it as i bet that 64 year old woman couldnt run 110 miles.....maybe some people are just suited to water.

That's it, I'm getting quite into it but I just can't fathom it, it's completely illogical! I think with most types of exercise, strength and cardiovascular fitness plays a large part in how good you are but with swimming I really do think technique is the biggest factor, mechanical as well as timing breathing correctly etc.
