All shows are good big or small....though in MY opinion a much friendlier atmosphere at the smaller shows. I personally don't think anyone should be running down any other show, just because they hav

For f**k sake the man only asked could some recommend a good show to visit in my opinion any show without all the bitching and were there is a bit of craic is a good show

Sorry to see the topic's got a bit out of hand. Thanks to 'everyone' for their input, i'll do a bit homework on all the shows/fairs stated and then make my own mind up. Hopefully see some of you nex

depends where your going but either head to the westmeath show in the south or the mourne show in the north if you can

No plans for going to a certain place, just somewhere with not much driving involved.

Thanks for the info, I'll check those 2 out

Raynardman dont worry to much about the driving a lot of good people over here would see you right with transport to and from a fair or show and ots not that big of a place lol. In the north the best shows/fairs this year in my opinion would be out of this lot, and I went to nearly all of them.:the Mourne for quality dogs fair showing and racing probably the most dogs in the ring for each class/ moria country fair for good showing and simulated coursing lots of stands in the main fair/ shanes castle great game fairs of ireland good racing good number of stalls and good main arena and demonstrations etc fair numbers of dogs in the ring for the showing etc/I

RAYNARDMAN, You can see before you buy!

Three videos on the Great Game Fairs of Ireland:

Birr Castle 2012

Shanes Castle 2013

Shanes Castle Gundogs 2013

Apart from the range and quality of the stands at our shows we have the best competitions and prizes for terriers and lurchers: The Five Nations Championshps - the 27th Annual All Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Championships, the Mourne Digging Championship Final, and the Master McGrath lurcher Final.

And we consider the terriers & lurchers to be an integral part of the events and have them inside the fairs. The Irish Working Terrier Federation have chosen to exhibit at both fairs this year and taken their rightful place with all of the other sporting organisations.

Our next fair is the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr Castle, Co Offaly on the 31st August and the 1st September www.irishgameandcountryfair.com

And in 2014 the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle Antrim is planned for the 28th & 29th June 2014.

AND we have special rates for the ferries AND a special two day pass for terrier & lurcher owners. You can get the boat for under £200.

If its not a Fair but a good show there are many - and you will receive a warm welcome but my personal favourite is the Mourne one - beautiful site, innovative competitions and good organisation.

Rob, Mail me at irishgamefair@btinternet.com and I will mail details. To be objective while Birr and Shanes are the largest fairs in their respective parts of Ireland all Irish fairs are substantially smaller than the major UK fairs. They would be somewhere between Galloway and Scone. But our prizes are equivalent to the best in the UK and we offer a very warm welcome to visitors.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
