Tiny 7 1,694
A fellah i know has a big 3/4 bred. Real powerhouse of a dog about 28'' would kill fox quick and retrevive the fcukers also. Never did get tried on deer due too the ban but iam more than sure he'd made a great deer dog with his pace and style and for a 3/4 had a decent amount of wind. Rabbits where scooped up as his as he was as adgile as a whippet iv honeslty never seen a big dog or infact many that could spin them like him bald golf course rabbits or rougher ground he just keep scooping them live too hand. Could spin an hare also no 5/5 dog but always 1s 2s from 3 type . To be honest iv spokeing about this dog before on here. The fellah i know how own's him is a once a weeker lamping a few times a month type. So the dog never really got the work he needed/wanted He lent me it 4/5 season back as mine was out all season with injury. And that dog honest could of been a once in a life time type he done just about everything you could of asked out of a dog he great moocher great lamper alright flushing daytime retrevived like a lab fur feather jumped like a stag mouth as good as a gun worked from the car or on foot he could just about do everything asked of him and the type you could be out 5 nights/days with and he'd still be bounceing the next morning too go again. A dog i really liked and would of like too keep or at the very used my self as a stud but the fellah had his balls off at an early age. And that was that........ Anit got no pic's of him but he was just like a GH with a broader head 2 Quote Link to post

fat man 4,741
Knew a chap back in around 1980-81 that had a 3/4 grey 1/4 lab, dont know which was madder, the owner or the dog.He was always on to my diging mate back then and myself to take him on a dig and that his dog could catch and kill anything that moved so after wrecking our heads for ages we decided we would throw caution to the wind and take him out on a dig.It was a sat morn and we arrived at our destination,me my mate and martin our new friend + his dog {BIG GUY] which he was duly proud of the name he had for him.1st earth we tried held and soon we had a bolt and to our amazment BIG GUY was gone like a flash and had taken and killed his fox in double quick time with martin's head growing by the second. We moved on and tried another couple without success and then again to our surprise Big Guy found and marked an earth we did not know and here we dug 2 more fox, forgot to add there was a good bounty on fox skins at the time and at this stage we had 3 and it was still early in the day.We finished the day on 5 with another taken by Big Guy after a bolt and another accounted for by a hard type terrier we had. From that day on Martin and Big Guy became good members of our little team with Big Guy accounting for a lot of fox day and night and also filling the freezer on more than 1 occasion, both gone now,Big Guy jumping from a bridge on to a railway track in pursuit of a fox and Martin then a few year back lost the plot and took his own life, still great memorys from back then, rip both of them. 4 Quote Link to post
morton 5,369
I owned a first cross Lab/Grey,trained up easily, showed plenty of early promise, but lacked pace that would have made a more useful dog out of it. Quote Link to post

border lad 1,047
A great x my one was something special, take all edible, highly intelligent, great feet, biddable, under command, NOT lIKE THIS F---K--G WHAT I hAVE NOW, SEE THOSE DOGS WHAT WAS BRED IN THE 60S AND EARLY 70S were hard, dogs No pussy footing molly cuddling, No electrolytes required for those types, he was certainly one of the best dogs I have owned, run for fun I have a lot of very good memorys of Turbo sam, ((( the boys put that name on him Turbo,, he could run, jump for fun, and killed Hares, on any Land, he ran ,,,, I think that dog was never at the vets once, a proper dog, In those days dogs were being bred from proper working stock, not for ££££££££££££s and genuinely, you could get a lineing from a top coursing greyhound, for a small fee, and importantly, there was plenty of gear for him to run all daylight, we used do the water back in those days, he would swim from one bank to the other with the cord of the sheckle net, he stood 26" length to go with it, and weighed around the 60 +lb mark jet black, a beautiful dog, they talk about Killing Hares on the plough, he was a masterpiece, plough, tattie fields, winter wheat, seeds fields , he Loved it, were the real dog comes in on the short grass were the sheep have been grazing, were the fellow with the long ears can stretch, there legs,,,, thats when you know you have a dog, fences and walls was nothing to him, truth Lads the dog I have now does not come in the same breath as that black fellow that I was talking about, 7 Quote Link to post

border lad 1,047
I put him over a couple of bitches, the pups I kept were not as good as he was, but I never put the same work into them as I did with turbo, this is a problem when you have a really good dog you expect the same from the youngsters, Looking back I just never gave them enough time to learn there trade properly, Quote Link to post
