Oil Drum Barbecue

Ive got one that was given to me ,so i didnt make it .It was cut in half longways ,so youve got two halves.Discard one half.With some box section ,weld some legs on it ,it will now look like a feed trough.Nick a shopping trolley, and cut a section of the stainless mesh to fit .Then in the half barrel,weld some supports for the mesh.Job done

A grinder and 1 mm slitting discs will give you a better cut than a 12" stihl

I've cut loads of these with a 12" disc cutter, nice and easy of you take your time :yes:

To add. It won't make an iota of difference what it had in. You won't create enough heat within to cause it to combust whilst cutting. Unless it was toxic waste. Then you may melt or grow an extra leg.

Ive cut these free hand, no chalk, blue, nothing. you couldn't cut it better with a laser :tongue2:

i dont trust used barrels but your right cutting wouldn't cause any problems. we're all born with webbed feet round here a 3rd led wouldn't be a surprise to anybody :laugh:

trolleys aint made from stainless or they would be worth nicking.

A guy just up the road from me was killed last year when the oil drum he was cutting up to make a BBQ exploded, so make sure you wash it out really well first with detergent and hot water

Just about to say the same thing. FFS cut it out in the open and dont do it anywhere confined like a garage. Some i knew was also killed and the grinder was stuck in the shed roof..... :icon_eek: Be careful.... :thumbs:

Are you saying don't cut it with a gas torch with a fag in my mouth in the shed? :laugh:

That would be the best bet....but if you have to then make sure you have some suitable liquid to dowse the flames with if it goes up....try petrol.... :thumbs::D

That would be the best bet....but if you have to then make sure you have some suitable liquid to dowse the flames with if it goes up....try petrol.... :thumbs::D

 

I was going to use my pure oxygen fire extinguisher. :laugh: Bring some ribs.

Chap burnt to death last year when his disc cutter ignited fumes inside the drum.

Cut both ends off,then cut the cylinder along its length on both sides,put one side on the other,put the two end pieces on top,then put it in the boot of your car,go weigh it in .....and buy a disposable barbecue at the garage with the money :laugh::tongue2:
