Astanley 11,604
Your right Gnash , he didn,t duck anyone , and you can only beat whats about ,the quality of mddleweights of the era wasn,t his fault , also he didn,t need to step up a weight to prove himself , no doubt he was a great champion .....I know it,s nitpicking but I can,t help thinking history has been kind to him because he fought great fighters that couldn,t make their natural weights anymore. Not sure id agree with that mate ....What was there natural weights ? They covered 5 or 6 weight divisions over their career and continued to fight at or above middleweight after fighting Hagler so its not like they carried weight to get the fights on with him..................but anyway you make some interesting points. Astanley 11,604
I remember Duran beating Buchanan in the early 70s and I think he stayed champ for 5/6 years after that so I would say in his prime he was a natural lightweight ,I think people over look this part of his career because he didn,t come to the notice of the general public till he fought Leonard .Leonard was definatly welter l/middle in his prime despite the circus that his later career became ,Hearns could be whatever weight he wanted ,but his legs always stayed in the welter division. I know its not the case ,but a cynic could say Haglers best opponents where 3 past thier best fighterswho couldn,t make the weight in thier own divisions anymore. atb

Saying that I did like the Ian Darke and Glenn McCrory duo on sky. I thought them pair were good. I liked the Reg Gutteridge/Jim Watt combination myself i thought they was great together a blend of entertainment knowledge and experience............Bit before our time but my ol fella always said Eammon Andrews was a great boxing commentator. Yeah Reg and Jim done the first Tyson vs Holyfield fight. Good combo them I agree. Jim watt he was a joke wouldn't leave the Kelvin hall he's a bigger joke trying to commentate who could understand him .
gnasher16 30,852
I think thats a bit harsh.......Hearns was in his mid 20,s when he fought Hagler......Duran was odds on favorite to beat him....maybe Leonard yes your right......... Hagler was one of those very rare fighters that fought his whole career at the same weight....not many people can do that..... I certainly think the other 3 fought him when it suited them, not the other way round.
