Lab 10,979
Alcoholics Are The Most Selfish People You Could Meet , My Experience Of An Alcoholic Tells Me Gazza Will Not Stay Sober Long and I So Hope I'm Wrong , I Think The Only Glimer Off Hope For Him Would Be For Say Newcastle To Employ Him Once He Is Clean and Put Him Under Say The Youth Team Manager And Tell Him How They Want Him To Help Develop There Youth . . . Because Football Was/is His Only Love And All He Knows And Without That He Probably Thinks He Has No Purpose In Life . . And That May Just Give Him Some Self Esteem And. A Reason To Get Out Off Bed In Athe Mornin While Socialising Among Clean Living Healthy People ! Gazza in charge of the youth team??? Canny see that happening!!..... Lab lol I've an image now off the Youth team all pissed singing "It's Coming Home" while Gazza Is Conduction them From The Dentist Chair you remember that i take it Wembley 96 . . too a degree I can see what Socks is saying but surely the people who have lived off his Talent Financially would surely not be knocked for Helping 1 off there own out , GTE well put mate agree ! Truth be told i'm having to bite my tongue on what i really think about Gazza.......when i think of him i dont see a drunk i see 2 things. One is him lobbing Colin Hendry and banging "that" goal in and the other he is playing a pretend flute. He's a f***ing pain in the arse actually....
lanesra 4,007
I think a lot of it is to do with the lifestyle they lead once there playing for big money , but if that were the case then wouldnt all players earning obscene amounts of money be the same , ? I do believe some people simply press the self destruct button , George best , gazza , being the 2 most notable , i dont consider either did anything heroic , but I must admit George was poetry in motion to watch, quite magical I Dont Know Kay . . . I'd Say Playing The Pretend Flute To Celtic Fans Is Quite Heroic :)

Malt 379
All the money in the world ain't going to help him now, I've seen people like him many times over the years and it gets to a point where you are beyond help.. Many, many people are what I'd class as functioning alcoholics - they hold decent jobs and only drink in their spare time. Some people can live their whole adult lives like this, but if and when it gets to the point that it starts interfering with their jobs and family lives, they usually knock the drink up a gear and then it's usually all downhill from their until the inevitable happens. It gets to a point where it goes from a substance dependency and starts affecting a persons personality as well, turning them into a twisted shell of their former selves.. The liver is a remarkable piece of nature's engineering, it can withstand damage up until its 90% gone before you go past the point of no return, but the brain is a completely different beast.. baw 4,360
I can only say about his football ability from what I saw in the flesh and all I saw was an over rated, over weight, footballer who had to use his arms and elbows to defend the ball. Yes he had a good football brain but the body couldn't keep up. I wish him well but no bigoted wife beater would see a brown penny of mine.
gnasher16 31,136
I think the minute you need to start comparing who is most needy of charity your best keeping your money in your pocket !....Giving to the needy is something you should WANT to do not be put on a guilt trip to do,hence i despise all these ads on telly for starving africans or rspca, you shouldnt need to make folk feel guilty to put their hand in their pocket..............yes if your talking about your last copper coins then of course there are more worthy causes than Gazza.....but to compare soldiers with limbs blown off is just ridiculous....if thats the case then there should only be 1 worthy charity and thats dying children......at least soldiers have reached adult life thousands of children around the country ( our country ) dont even get to do that....if you can afford 1 charity and 1 charity only give to them !............but nobody can dictate who is next most worthy its up to the person giving money.
whippet 99 2,613
the thing is people who have seen any suffering whever its army mates loosing limbs , family cancer victims, hospital workers working with terminal ilness children.............were all going to have different views on our prefered charity where the money should be spent on..............were all from different walks of life.....and we have all witnessed different kinds of suffering ................i agree that before money is spent abroad there is plenty of worthy charity cases here in the need of financial help........... but for knocking a man just for having his say on what he thinks the money should be spent on is out of order ,.............as lifes go on and we exspereince different things im sure if such a subject arises again views will change with exspereince ............... think i will open a bottle of scotch now...................lol

Gnasher, you've missed my point perhaps. I wasn't saying whats the most worthy, but what is worthy and what isn't in my opinion. Black and white, no shades of grey there. An addict with no intention of fighting their weakness isn't worthy in my opinion. I can't help but think of MANY genuine causes, like the example I gave. Nothing silly about that. I don't idolise the man, so have no more sympathy for him than any other like him. People can throw their money where they want, I wouldn't call/judge anybody for it either.
