Wet Warrrens, But We Managed A Few......

Recommended Posts

Today's outing was to a hedge where the nettles had died back enough now for us to get at it. Itwas maybe 200 yards of very thin hedge, hardly a hedge at all by local standards, not that we were complaining. A fair few rabbits were obviously present, with several diving to ground when we arrived which were followed by positive marks from the dogs.

All in all the rabbits played ball, bolting nice and clean into nets or to the dogs, but we were amazed at how wet the warrens were, some holes were literally full to the brim with water!! We only had one dig today at 4ft and when I broke through to the tube a gush of water came from it and filled the bottom of the dig!! It was bad! The heros of the day were the ferrets, who got stuck in and spent a few hours fighting through the water logged warrens !
22 all done for 12.30

Heres a few snaps...

Good Hunting Sirius

It's pretty well the first time I have come across it this year as other places I do are high up. Now we are doing the lower places and hedges you really realise how wet it is below terra firma.

I wonder if it will affect the breeding? Only one or two of the does were was in the family way yesterday.

Nice going mate it takes a good ferret to go threw water too work the rabbits

I had one jill out that day at a 3ft mark for around 30mins and then she moved and 4 bolted, all caught  She looked like she had been dunked in a bucket of dirty water poor critter. All the ferrets did bloody well

Good going Sirius, good bag..... Was very wet yesterday, mind you we had a fair drop on Friday and Saturday night..

I worried myself if they would breed with all the rain, but there's a few carrying now... Gonna lay off a couple of spots now to give them a chance...

Cheers

Kev
