Happens all the time round here in "Gods waiting room by the sea". Although it pisses me off sometimes, what can you do? I do have one old boy I look out for, I have a drink with him, make sure its tidy and that hes fed and got a bit of baccy. Bit weird really as we have fook all in common apart from both getting called scouse, and he wasnt even born in Liverpool never mind raised there!?. I spose I just respect the life he`s lived and continues to stick by his guns...

Apart from my dad i used to be good friends with a irish pensioner called mick higgins... He used to let me graze a pony up at his land and i spent many an hour listening to storys of his youth... He didnt like a lot of folk and hated my fella because my fellas uncle took a girl off him when he was 19 and the 2 of them look very alike apart from the age difference, mick died several years ago rip.

Another pensioner we help out from time to time is neddy... Hes an alcoholic and we often give him lifts into the village and sometimes home again... It can be lonely out here for an older person who lives on their own and the pub is a big part of his world as is the mart and his small farm so who is anyone to judge.

we also help out a friend of the family padraig... He often needs help fixing up his near derelict house, broken windows fixed, walls painted and we gave him our old fridge as he didnt have one and got him a cheap gas cooker to replace his rotton old cooker... He lives in vertual poverty but is a very proud man who doesnt trust many people as hes afraid they'll rob him... He refuses to let the council rehouse him as the only thing he has in the world is that house... He was born there and he has every intention of dying there

The most important pensioner that we take care of is my dad... We are down visiting several times a week and i often go to hospital with him.. His health hasnt been great lately and hes been having mini strokes.

I was out walking the dog and an old boy was stood outside his house an he asked me if I could turn his electric fan heater on for him as he had bad eyesight . Goes in an it wasn't plugged in he was fully layered up an was still freezing bless him. Anyway I said there ya go mate an went to walk out an he says thanks what do I owe you? At this point he whacks out a right wedge of cash that would choke a donkey!! I said don't be daft but he shouldn't be walkin around with that kinda money.

Crap story but made me feel like I'd helped someone.

An oap is for life not just for xmas :D .....For a number of years now one sunday a month me and a few pals drive round scooping up a few of the ol boys of the area and taking them to a well known boxing pub where around 20-25 of them will just sit there talking to us about sport and life i sit there like a big kid mesmerized.....even with all todays luxuries and places to go things to do etc its still one of the things i most look forward to.......it probably looks funny a big group of supposedly rough tough blokes sitting their in awe of a bunch of old boys sipping pints of mild and telling their tales...........but i love it.

Bit mad calling 80 year old blokes your mates......but thats something i love about this area the young the middle aged and the old can all still respectfully share a few pints together in conversations on common interests...............and i certainly wouldnt see any of them go without .....at any time not just xmas we should all have more value for the olduns.

An old fella came across me burdened by a few bunny,s,he relieved me of a couple to lessen my load, every year,in season, for about 4 years he knocked my door and took a couple of bunnys,i was glad to oblige and happy to see him make use of them, then one day another old fella in the boozer was telling these amazing tales of his mucker and the exploits of his jukel that managed to furnish him with a couple of bunnys every week, this dog was the bizz and nothing about could surpass it,he mentioned that i myself had a yearning for this mutt,or at least a line out of it.A few days later and another knock at the door,he went away with his 2 bunnys to furnish his mates appetite and give the old rogue the bragging rights for a while longer, happy days,i attended his funeral a while ago, good man,big heart,my fecking bunnys.
