johnny boy68 11,726
If Joe had fought Jones jr and Hopkins earlier in thier/his career and beaten them, then there would be less debate about Joe being a "great" imo. Some of Joe's defences were against very poor opponents, not his fault fully I know but the calibre of opponent has a lot of bearing on debates of this kind and thats where Joe's becomes a little questionable, as a local lad I'd love for him to be classed as one of the world's greatest but sadly he isn't, one of Britains greatest.......no doubt.

northern lad 2,292
Just read that list.Tyson at no50 on a good day he would of hammered any one of them,a lot of people fail to see how good he actually was.....until he was screwed over......he was a lot more than a big puncher ,watch his movement,in his heyday they hardly layed a glove on him

BULLDOUG 199
Joe was a great fighter in my eyes, up there with my top fighters of all time, rightly so his name should be mentioned along side the Durans and Sugar Rays of the world, He always dug deep and never quit, even after being knocked onto his knees with birdies flying all arround his head he would muster the extra that was needed to turn the game arround. For this reason alone, he goes into the archeives for me.
