vixen the kerry blue was never ever classed as working over here were it originated from they where well known for being gasy cowardly bastids that would bite you when your back was turned as for the

Id like your opinions on what the title 'working terrier' means..... i know im going to take a bit of stick from those that dont agree with me, but im going to be controversial and stick my neck out

If everyone's terriers do what is expected then they are doing their job, don't let anyone on an internet hunting site let you think any less of your terriers for not doing exactly what they say or do

a working terrier is one that will go to ground and do what is asked of it whether it be a bolt a dig or a kill, these ones what dont, dont deserve the name terrier, and theres no room in my kennels for them, its down to breeding, terrier to terrier not ratter to ratter or bushing dog to bushing dog, if you want a bushing dog use a spaniel

seen spanial x bullxrussels stay all day but thats another story

i use a TERRIER for bushing and thats just what it is a TERRIER use can talk balony all day they are all terriers with diffrent jobs simple as that.

simple logic really... a terrier that will go to ground on quarry big enough it can face...(i.e.) not rabbits or rats or mice or voles, or put phesants out all day or maybe caught a shrew one day... good on the ducks he retreives? hi hes game he will scrap way all the terriers in sight... or one i often see.. a facebook terrier.. which is the owner spends all time telling lies about what the terrier can do on the computer or on the fone but not where it counts and thats UNDERGROUND IN THE DARK for many hours sometimes.... with a BIG set of teeth... totally ALONE...

yes the other dogs still have the name JR or Fell or pat or border or any other breed like the wheaton or anything else that has been bought as a pet and not a worker!!

but beleive me i met men who own all and are not even worthy of being called MEN let alone there dogs being called terriers!

But hey there are some men on here that have made comments of what they think a terrier is.... and that is a dog or bitch that gives 110% in the bowels of the earth. week in week out sometimes 4-5 times a week at fox a very respectable quarry and noble advisary who knows the ground and his home..... but you would never know what thats like digging.... if your having only to dig out a MOUSE OR RABBIT or RAT..

Foxes are what terriers are for ....( Badgers too in countryies where its legal)

so look no ones right or wrong but thats what ruining terriers and the passion for our right to work them to quarry... if you want to work rabbits, get a ferret and a whippet, want to do ducks, get a lab or some sort retreiver, wana do bush work get a beagle, but leave serious underground work to the last few true workers we have left.....

The terriers I feed are for the work I put in front of them. You can choose to confine your expectations to what is traditionaly hunted in your area, and judge your dogs accordingly. I'll do the same. My dogs aren't any kind of world beaters but they WORK for what I DO. Most are worked TO GROUND both here and in Europe. They don't see any badger here..... yet.... but I'm working on it... and it's legal as hell. They have to locate. MOST OF the time that means putting their noses to the ground and running a track in a very dry climate. They also have to wind like curs. They aren't specialists, they are bred to be versatile and they are. I cut most loose like hounds, they open up upon locating game and I'm headed that way. They also hunt under a gun... and you can go ahead and keep your retriever/whippet/ferret.lol

I kind of like what I'm feeding. I'm sure your terriers are the best at what they were bred for in the area they were bred for it. I've found some that work fine here. I breed from Slovakian, Serb, and Polish lines of jagdterriers that suit me, becuase they suit me. I'm not here selling dogs. I respect YOUR definition of a working terrier... I'm not putting them down. But if they couldn't do what was expected of them HERE I would be.

if its scared of the dark-or the quarry thats in the ground-its just a dog-would never incourage a dog i wanted for earthwork to bush rabbits etc-i start them with a bit of ratting and then take them to watch and learn the smells, noises of digging-i have a lurcher to catch rabbits and use my mates spaniel for bushing-i will not keep a terrier that will not stay until its dug or bolt said quarry-not knocking anyman that uses them for bushing but it aint what i was taught-A TERRIER IS MEANT TO WORK BELOW GROUND FULLSTOP NO ARGUMENTS -jmho.atb

after how many digs do yous class your dogs as proven ? i no it can all change from 1 dig but upuntill or if that happens how many digs till you say its proved its self ??

to me end of second season start of third when the dog has been tested you could call it a proven terrier but your better saying nothing and let the dog do the talking

Ok bob ain't going to lower myself to your standards. Like I said on a other post it all ways end in a slagging match on here because of people like yourself who can't put a anything constructive together. It is plain for everybody to see someone like yourself does not deserve to own a dog with comments like that but al give you a chance to redeem yourself answer me this. WORKING TERRIERS WERE ORIGINALLY KEPT TO HUNT WHAT ? I will give you a week to answer the question because of your lack of intelligence

We can hunt whatever we want here. The true test of a terrier HERE is whether or not it can do the work you put in front of it. Doesn't matter if it's fox or piney woods rooters. Mine have to hunt everything. That's the true test. Work what you feed as you see fit.. I have nearly seven thousand acres at my disposal. Come and show me what a TRUE TERRIER is.lol

There are badger three hours from here that can be legally dug to, and your dog can be on coon the same day. Come and show me what a real dog looks like. I'll put my pot lickers to whatever we come across in any terrain we come across. Open invatation.... come and see your dog hunt his own hogs and well enjoy a cold beer afterwords. I guarentee you'll see things a little differently than you did before you got here. It won't likely change your oppinion of what a terrier SHOULD be... but you won't walk away talking about how the dogs you saw here wouldn't work.lol
