Casso 1,261
Following on from another thread on here, has anyone ever felt they gave their dogs too much work, if so how did it reflect in the dog, how did it show the effects, anyone ever had a dog refused to run bunnies, i can understand an unfit dog blowing up, but has anyone ever sickened a dog by over work, Quote Link to post
gamerooster 1,179
once had a greyhound bitch that no matter how fit i had her, she could run 6 hard rabbits and she was spent, anymore and i would have to carry her home, very rarely missed a rabbit in the first 6 though!!! TOMO 27,605
I have pushed a few dogs to the edge, thankfully I have always had a possative outcome. One that sticks out well though was not my dog,,, it was a greyhound belonging to a mate,, it had never ran a daytime hare,, as it was a young track dog,, the first two hares it ran it missed,,,, not wrong in that.. So it was rested for an hour or so ,, it then went and killed the next two it ran,,,,,, unwisely he ran it on a fifth hare,,, oh dear,,, it only went a few hundred yards befor it went over,,, luckily I was right where it fell, and got over to it and started getting it on its feet and rubbing it down , I also got me coat on it... Thankfully this dog pulled through with no probs,,, 2 Quote Link to post

fitchet 788
I used to push my first lurcher to his limits running hare after hare with my mates saluki cross. It took his toll on his body when he got older. Thankfully im older now and abit wiser and would never push a dog to its utmost limit. Theres testing a dog then theres pushing them far too hard. birddog 1,354
i've came close but saw the signs, it's easy enough to do especially early season when we're keen, theres loads of green rabbits and the dogs not quite match fit, like willow says its the handler who makes the decisions 1 Quote Link to post
