over worked a dog?

Recommended Posts

Following on from another thread on here, has anyone ever felt they gave their dogs too much work, if so how did it reflect in the dog, how did it show the effects,

anyone ever had a dog refused to run bunnies, i can understand an unfit dog blowing up, but has anyone ever sickened a dog by over work,

i need a dog like that only see 6 bunnies a night round here  on another note a friend of mine had a collie x grey half and half he run it on about 6 hares in the space of a hour and half and it didnt even come close to catching any and he had to carry it back. after that it started opening up on everything even on rabbits she was 3 years old at the time and just started oppening up and never stopped.

I have pushed a few dogs to the edge, thankfully I have always had a possative outcome.

One that sticks out well though was not my dog,,, it was a greyhound belonging to a mate,, it had never ran a daytime hare,, as it was a young track dog,, the first two hares it ran it missed,,,, not wrong in that.. So it was rested for an hour or so ,, it then went and killed the next two it ran,,,,,, unwisely he ran it on a fifth hare,,, oh dear,,, it only went a few hundred yards befor it went over,,, luckily I was right where it fell, and got over to it and started getting it on its feet and rubbing it down , I also got me coat on it...

Thankfully this dog pulled through with no probs,,,

I used to push my first lurcher to his limits running hare after hare with my mates saluki cross. It took his toll on his body when he got older. Thankfully im older now and abit wiser and would never push a dog to its utmost limit. Theres testing a dog then theres pushing them far too hard. ATB
