jasper65 6
I dont think we change managers more than any other country.....and if it dont work it needs fixing surely.....we tried the foreign route it didnt work no point carrying on with something thats not working....players wise i tend to think that a manager like your Alex Ferguson or Roy Hodgson for that matter, knows a hell of a lot more about football and footballers than we do....ok i know we all like to have a moan and think we could do better....but in the cold light of day mate these managers study these players day in day out they havent made a living off the game by not really knowing what they,re doing......its one thing saying we think certain players are no good etc......but to question the judgment of somebody like Alex Ferguson i just dont understand that. I tend to believe that footballers in general give 100 % when they play....it doesnt always go to plan and occasionally they will play badly thats just the nature of sport......but this " lack of passion " thing we constantly hear these days i think is a pile of nonsense especially when it comes to England we hear it all the time......people seem fixated on Stuart Pearce shouting, screaming and steaming into tackles and base their judgment on him....the games changed now players cant just crunch in and up end an opponent in a tackle anymore without getting sent off......and no amount of screaming and growling is going to put the ball in the net......i mean what is this " passion " players are supposed to play with ? what does it look like ?....players running round like headless chickens is good to nobody. Im of the belief we are a good side with good players but theres plenty of sides just as good and better than us,the margins are so slim at the highest level same in any sport.....look how small the margins between victory and defeat have been for us in the big penalty shoot outs we have lost we have been 1 kick of a football away...bad luck, bad technique ok maybe....but in a 90 minute game of football we have proved we are not a million miles behind and theres no reason to think we should be a million miles in front so we just have to support our side.......anyway heres to another frustrating few weeks ahead. any countryman worth his salt wants to see their national team do well Gnash and I'm no different . these days I'm pretty pesamistic about the England team and to be honest don't expect them to win anything, this way if they win a game or dear I say it a cup its a bonus . Over the last few years I have questioned Fergies judgement not only in the transfer market but somtimes tacticly aswel as handling of some players like Jaap Stam and a few others, think Roy Keene has also voiced his opinions in the past. no doubt about it the guy has been a geniouse in the past and perhaps the present but all great commanders and leaders make mistakes perhaps with age, I know my brain isn't what it used to be so fook knows what it will be like if I reach 70 . with the England team I think Gasgoine hit the nail on the head when he was talking about pulling on the England shirt and playing for england was everything to him, seems there's a few playing these days that don't have quite the same reasons, why the fook some are still picked it beyond me mate. gnasher16 31,476
Your going to get a player with Gazzas attitude in every generation though....i spose you could say Scott Parker, even John Terry are like that in todays times ( not a patch on Gazza talent wise of course ) but you couldnt have a whole team like that they would just burn out....Look at some of the other players in that side with Gazza,.... Mcmanaman Sherringham Anderton not exactly noted for their passion were they. Its not so much pesamistic mate its realism....we all get carried along on media hype sometimes but when you stand back and take a common sense approach rather than romantic hope the picture becomes more clear in my opinion. As for Fergie and his mistakes/over the hill etc...................theres that " big club " mentality at work again

billybaltic 308
Haven't won a carrot yet, but still enjoying it, russia was a great team to watch, and as gnash said, i think the french will surprise a few, they were 12-1 now 9-1, so they have had plenty put on them, looking forward to seeing holland today and germany later, that's a good double if i ever seen one, in the holland game, van persie to score anytime and holland to win pay's 5-2 got to be worth ago, the way thing's are going i will be skint by the final i thought poland would of smashed greece, so that knackered my double, what do you fancy lad's.
