I wasn't ever going to comment on this thread ever , I wasn't prepared to say anything about the breed or the men although I've seen a few run and know a lot of the men mentioned including victor gh

I did manage to find a single photograph all be it not a great one. Can't really remember the night but the blue bitch in the picture belonged to my old mate from Workington.   The Handsome guy in

Well Xena wont be carrying on the lineage. Unfortuntly she is gonna be spayed tomorrow as she has had 3 phantom pregancies now. Last time(in september) she would run at rabbits and wouldn't pick up,seemed like she was restricted. Soon as it passed, then back to brilliance. Again(this week), she wasn't herself and not running well(sluggish) so took her to the vets. The vet said it might cause other complications...so off to vets in the morning....gutted!!!

sorry to hear that DL as i know the bitch has been doing well for you and you are more than happy with her, i dont know if i will ever breed off my bitch

as it's not my thing nor do i have the time to be honest but i surpose i still have the option,,,,if i ever did you would be more than welcome to a pup as

our dog's are very closely bred just dont hold your breath lol

Cheers for that offer mate, I love that racier look in a lurcher as well. No pup for me until Xena is at least 5-6 years old. Although saying that, my old faithful Coco has gone into retirement. Same day i took Xena into vets, i also found that Coco's arthritus in her toe is too bad to carry on running her hard. Just ferreting and mooching from now on. another reason to be gutted!!!

Coco..in my eye's a perefect mooching bunnie Girl..100%...

She was never a great lamping dog, but ferreting and mooching she'd match any dog. Too much collie, too much brain and chose her runs.

Sorry lads, i've moved from a minshaw thread...lol

hello all, I assume we are talking victor minshaw lurchers!!! If yes, pure mongrel lurcher to lurcher for many generations, I knew Victo and have lamped with him many years ago, he said the stamina factor was from Hound blood, they are lampers, or should say were as most, if not all the of the genuine pure blood went many years ago.

In the past there has been plenty of failures, like all breeds but I have had a few failures I put down to too close inbreeding as they were completely numb/thick, very few even though built for the job would have a fox on their own. Minshaws Blue would not have one, however as for running all night, stamina 2nd to none, excellent strikers for big dogs and run for ever, as I say, the only prob many years ago out of 20 pups you would be lucky to get a good 1, some really fu**ed up in the head and wouldnt even chase!

Personally I have had 2 excellent dogs that worked to a good standard a variation of work/ quarry, all single handed!!! I also knew and saw others Blue, Rambo, Nigger (half minshaw cross), in their day (15 plus years ago!) as good as they come, they were top lamping dogs. but all long gone and unfortunately when the bull breeds hit thhe scene and due to the lack of courage in minshaw lurchers and the fashion of lamping foxes hit the scene it appears they died off

Good luck if you find a person who has sustained the breed, be careful though a few people put bull blood into them, and a few will fabricate breeding to sell, let me know if you are successful! it would be interesting.

Andy dont take offence to this but do you regret letting certain folk use some of your dog's as stud??? you know what im getting at,

dont get me wrong im glad you did as my bitch has come from dog although not directly but i know some jumped on the band waggon

and not all where for the good

Oh for sure i regret plenty Daz! I know some good as come from it though, yourself,Derbylad,Rabbithunter got dogs out of Chester and everyone knows how highly i rated that dog,he just wouldn't mate a bitch in the real world lol and it would of been a travesty if he never produced anything but fairplay to the fella for making the effort and putting up the £££ to get bitches artificially inseminated from Chester..it was just the darn amount of litters he spat out in a couple of years that kind of pissed me off..some of the bitches he was breeding off although well bred had seen next to nothing (his words)..he was selling pups for £400 or more? I couldn't understand people buying them for that sort of money? Yes dogs like my own dog Jack that covered the old bitch, the Chester dog and Flick covering bitches from that 1st mating all were worked hard YET he wanted ALL the glory? It's all water under the bridge now at the end of the day?..he has now jumped shipped and moved onto Coursing dogs  ..blood of these dogs is aplenty now be it for better or worse? ATB Andy.

Some really good points in there fella  ..the inbreeding for one ;) ..i know of several dogs that were as you say THICK!! to the point of almost putting a fella into the nut house  ..due imo to too close inbreeding? ..one was a white and blue dog would you believe it called Blue  ..it was out of Vic's Blue x Lou (Blue's daughter)..it was fecking mental,i never owned it but done a bit with it,jesus talk about thick  ..also a dog called Mick that was out of Blue x his 1/2 sister Darkie..backward dog but could run a bit lol, that Taffy dog i posted a pic of way back out of Blue x his sister another thick/stupid animal...you've definately seen them because your right on the mark  ..and again with the foxes :victory: ..not many out of a darn "lot" were what you would call fox dogs :hmm:..the stamina and being good strikers are two of their strong points so you do know the craic and seen it with your own eyes ;) ..and also with Nigger as his dam was a Collie/Grey x Deerhound/Grey :victory: ..get some more craic up as you obviously know a bit about them? ATB Andy. ;)
