yes push bike inertube,,, if you cut it twice as long as you want,, you can double it back on its self so its twice as thik,,, you will have to hold it in place with tape,,,obviously,, of course some dogs will do there best to get it off,,, depends on your dog,,,,if it will accept it,, just slide it on evrytime he put away...

The pipe insulation that Jimster suggested should be good too. It's very lightweight - a type of grey foamrubber tube. I've used it on car roof bars to pad them when carrying a kayak. It's light but strong.

Best of luck with it.

We had one bitch who did a lot when she was younger, and she lives in the house! :icon_eek: I was forever washing the walls and doors. Dogs usually only do it just before they go out, when they are excited and pleased to see you: I stopped one doing it by training it to sit the moment it saw me approaching the kennel, keeping it in the sit position until I'd let the dog out of the kennel. Pipe insulation is best because it is so light weight. I reckon that some dogs suffer from it more because of the exact way they wag their tails, whipping them backwards and forwards in a more sharp movement than others: I've got a lot of waggy dogs but only one damages the tail tip.

I would just go with the innertube idea but I think covering the walls would be better long-term in case you forget about it or it drops off (or chewed off).

But if you would like to pay for the privelage, you can buy covers online http://www.gundogsupply.com/lewis-dog-tail-protector.html which might suit lab too if you wanted to keep it on when working? (for the dog's tail)
