Down to Wiltshire yesterday evening to meet up with Foxdropper and RabbitController for a stroll about to try for some rabbits and try and tag some troublesome chicken nabbing fox's. As seems to be the case at the moment the rabbits are either out in force or not at all and this looked to be one of those evenings where they were elsewhere. The hares didn't seem to be too bothered with the conditions and were all over the place although these were left in peace. No sooner out of the truck than a bright pair of eyes of an offending fox were caught in the beam. This came charging to a light squeek but pulled up around 100 meters away. I was on the bipod by this point and had just focussed on the target when the clockwork upstairs sent the signal to my trigger finger to take up the last of the pressure on the Remmington. Unbelievably in the split second before the pin the primer I saw the bugger turn on its heel and leg it and the shot missed it by a whisker. One of those annoying moments you can do nothing about :censored:

Onwards over the fields we played the frustrating game of chasing rabbits that hovered out of range and then nipped in the hedge as soom as the safety was flicked off  When we returned back to the truck some eyes were seen in the same spot and we strode up the the edge of the track. Whether it was the same fox or not it wasn't going to hang about and was off like stink to the other side of the field and started to skirt the hedgerow moving further away from us goving us the occasional backwards glance. I was struggling to adjust the paralax while following the sporadic flash of eyes which seemed miles off. It eventually paused to give me a moment to crank up the mag and I placed the dot at the top of its head where the eyes gave a clear focus point and squeezed off. Thwack - have that  We paced it out at 258 yards and was hit square in the head which is my longest shot to date beating my 230 yard head shot a week or so back on my last fox... also one of FD's :D

There I was, bathing in the glory and admiration of my peers when FD pricked the bubble and pointed out that its all down to the scope which makes it practically cheating (he's probably right) and how the f*****g long-rifle cowboys are killing all his breeding stock  . Thanks FD for the trip out mate and cheers for lamping RC... shorten your stride length you tall git as I half had to jog to keep up

All the coaching and confidence building has finally payed off mate ,lol.Thankfully it wasnt a vixen and will be the last fox i kill this season bar the inevitable call outs to deal with cubs a bit later .Been one of the best seasons for a long time due in no small part to Matts shooting ability with that no miss combo .Roll on the buck season .

Good shooting Matt. Next it will be Leica rangefinding bins, Wind meter and Exbal to really get into long range shooting. It has to be seen to be believed what can be achieved. My personal best is a 500 yard goat . My mates PB is a hare at 888 yards and that was with his 1st shot from a cold barrel

Well I got 2 unused table clamps and a need for stability.
Cant afford the new style tripods <on furlough pay>,so I thought make your own. So drill n tap m10x1.5 in the base of said bracket .
Cut 2 pieces 7.5x3.5cm steel plate and fix to clamp .Drill hole and fit split pin to stop wind out in turnscrew. Then cut leather patches to fit and bond with contact adhesive, allowing 24 hours  to cure and Bob's your job.
Stable, free and hands free atb

While you were playing with your new rifles I went and got me a 3" hatsan ford escort 12g and to be honest I am quite impressed!
I put 28, 29, 32 and 36 gram loads through it and home loads some of which were subsonic and it cycled the lot! And with no O ring present!
I eventually did put an O ring on it but it was to thick and just would not allow the hammer to strike the firing pin although the action was locked. It's quite a precise fit. I later fitted a smaller section ring and now it fires. The reason for the ring despite perfect function without one is that the barreled action is quite loose without it but with it it all snugs up nice.
The one stock adjuster made it a perfect fit for me too. As autos go it is a pleasant cyclic sensation too, not effecting aiming much at all. It's no lightweight but not ridiculous either.
No pictures as it's just a cheap auto and I have been busy building an arc to survive the floods!!
Now, just got to wait untill September and hope the new world order movement don't get a knee jerk law passed banning duck and goose shooting one day before the season!
Oh yes, no oil in the action at all !
