The sight of a Deerhound/Grey in full flight,on open land,is a thing of seemingly effortless beauty and grace,a sight that holds in the memory like no other,ive witnessed Saluki types and they are also a wondrous spectacle,yet they lack the regal magesty of Deerhound types.

they used to be popular in the 70s and 80s in my area mainly 3/4 grey 1/4 deerhound. saw a 1/2 cross bitch run in the eighties from b. nuttals kennels in lancashire. she was excellent. it is many years since i have seen a deerhound cross run.

deerhound x greyhound, first x make large dogs slow to mature, need a 10 acre field to turn in, (( truth at least 2 years old before they come to them selves, the type I preferred, 3/4 grey 1/4, deerhound, made good coursing annimals, again dogs stood at least 28"

bitches from 25" to 27" slow to mature, but made good dogs for edible, especially deer, fantastic temperament, keen to please easy to train, but get hold a first x collie grey, bitch a racy type, and put the 3/4grey/1/4 deerhound dog over the bitch, now you have pups that will and should make very good dogs for edible stuff, easy to train biddable and great temparament, they have good coats,

but a good saluki x grey, with a touch of collie grey in the mix is hard to beat

sorry pall its just not true that you need a large field for a 1/2 x to turn in i have one hear and he tuns just as sharp and tight as any other lurcher i have seen all the rest i agree with slw to mature 100% but when they do mature they make fantastic dogs i have had a veriaty of dogs but i can say dh x lurchers are my all time lurcher there will all ways be space in my kennels for one

Once you've had a deerhound X lurcher, you'll always want one. Yeah, you need to let them grow up slowly but when they do they're formidable. They can turn, mine have all entered cover in pursuit, they will face teeth and hooves, seem to know how to please you, use their brains, are a pleasure to train, jump stuff for fun and have enough stamina to last the night/day. They do excel on the big fields where they can really lay down the speed and match any quarry.

the 3/4 greyhound 1/4 deerhound make handy dogs but some do tend to be to tall,a bitch around 25 tts is ideal for an alrounder

had a very good one of dave platts turn on a sixpence and real good mouth on her used to run her on feilds and fen regular .. jump anything and very intelligent mine wouldnt go near the bigger stuff though teeth or hooves . but had another to do that anyway , so wasnt worried .gotta say that a lot are to big for my liking .

I have a 2 1/2 nearly 3 year old first cross doxhope dog and he is a joy to own don't catch f@&£ all but a pleasure to have great with my 18 month kid run him paired up and he has balls of lion on his own seems to be missing ?? But before cold snap he seemed very game then I ran him on frozen field and he beat his feet and legs up a bit but now something not quite right doesn't jack but won't commit any advise

its the same with every x some good some bad ,but i agree with what most be said but their turning capatilites fair enought they not going have the sharpeness has 22 tts lurcher or a whippet infact they make up that othet departments weather its catches the quarry in 1 turn or 3 aslong as it catches

some say they are too big but dh are big ? so if ya dont wont a tall dog dont go for dh x's because most of them tend to be on the tall side

I've got a Deer/Grey 1st cross bitch. She's a big'un, 29". Maybe I got a good'un, as she turns very tight and catches rabbits day and night !Her first hare she over shot by a mile, but learned VERY quickly and sticks like glue now. I've had most crosses and pures, and I can rate the Deer cross with the best of them !
