robwelsh 354
most of the owners dogs time was either training or field trails by the sounds, where othere men with collie x's spent majority of there time out catching, someone has always had a better dog and a bigger dick lol its the rules when you sign up to the forum isnt it? but everyones entitled to there opinion, and my bitch got 1/4 collie, and she seems to be fine...eager as f**k, and havent given up on anything just yet...il let you know when she does, thats if she does atb lol 1 Quote Link to post
morton 5,369
The main reason i own Collie[Working Border, ive never seen a true working Beardie]bred lurchers is,they can adapt to different situations in the field, with time and experience, without having to look for guidance or command,as soon as you stifle their natural hunting ability with to much training they spend time looking for their owners guidance to the detriment of the job in hand. The time taken for agility and obedience training is valuable education time lost in the field. 2 Quote Link to post
whin 463
got an old dog without colie in him but can be trained to do circus tricks plus do what i need in a allround lurcher pre ban , i think the feild trails was good fun and thats were it ended good fun and afew of the dogs did work hard out with the feild trails as i saw several ove r the years. some took foxes roe hares pre ban rabbs in numbers , saw one cacth a few partridge a bit dozen rabbs live to hand then go and kill a fox stone dead , never saw a hare get caut that nite . but there you go and he was out alot the guy from filey , in his day , any way i would start them up again as it was good crack , but the obeidence thing would be re shaped , Quote Link to post
whin 463
just apart of history but i did see alot at chatsworth Chalkie who you looked at, and said would i have him in my corner with my dog when the chips are down, not some had never walked the walk , hence i thought a sham and some this was there first weekend to the high country over the border lol, dogs i thugh canny were bob katie maggie rooney, jake, danny they were working lurchers and agood stamp , and a few others ,but i new that type of dogs limitations back then so we move on all the best to them thats lived on the wild side Quote Link to post

littlefish 596
My thoughts on this,,, scenario, you have a first x collie grey which you have put the time into training for obediance trials and theres a good chance you would win all day long take the same pup and from day one just give it the basic training and let it find its own feet and theres a good chance it will perform well in the field try and combine the two and it gets shady, I reckon all the obediance training for trials would hinder a first x in the field scenario two,,, If I was and I,m not but I were to try and win some trials I think a 3/4 bred would be the way to go, a 3/4 can still be trained to a high level witout stifling the dog in the field imo ,atb 3/4 grey or 3/4 collie? johnnylestershair 78
hey ho if you think people like harry millward who was champ year after year didnt get his dogs out working or many others your wrong there was some people who never worked there dogs granted but i knew who did and didnt . the field trial test was based on every day hunting using nets lures fake rabbit bolts ect blind stays you no things that would be usefull whilst out working with your dog. the best at this was chosen to go on a field trial to work there dogs get this in real life outside in the cold catching things killing things i think this is working your dog people practiced got there dogs fit worked them and worked them to become experts polished hunters to be the best. it started off as ill trained dogs then went to thats all you can do train circus acts get a gripp you window licker i no adg and we have been out many a night and day been in the show ring with him and a better man with a dog u will never see the master with a dog belive me not just obedient Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
A master with dogs ??? Look through the variouse forums and count how many dogs he has gone through in the last 5 years. A good dog man sorts any niggling problems out not gets rid of the dog and start again with a new pup. 5 Quote Link to post
