I have very rarely seen them and have seen 3 in past few weeks. It was also in different areas aprox 2 or 3 miles distance away from each other? fieldsportsman 107
yes, the grey squirrel out competes the red on nearly every phase of its life cycle, one of the main killers to the red is the pox, carried by the grey, which is obviously harmless to the grey

kenny14 656
Unfortunately, I don't think it'll be many years before Reds are extinct in the UK. Various conservation organisations keep attempting to halt their decline, but no matter what they do, it's a complete waste of time and money unless we adopt a countrywide programme to reduce and hopefully eventually eradicate the Greys. Even though most people who could start this, understand the damage that Greys do, they're afraid to speak out and act, in fear of offending the majority of the general public who enjoy watching and feeding 'cuddly little Squirrel nutkins' in their gardens and Town and City parks. lanesra 4,007
i live on the Isle Of Man and we have no "Greys" , ive said for yrs we should be introducing the "Reds" as they would thrive here , though no 1 seems interested ..... strange that when you consider how people have lobbied and succeeded in protecting the "Mink" to a degree which is Quickly WIPING OUT the Water Vole , think someone involved in the Protection/Survival of the Red Squirrel looks into comin here for a holiday and bring some with them ! Never see grey much, around were I walk we need a mass cull of greys! the red's are nice little things and i would never shoot one even if numbers bounce back, but i just look at greys and think tree rats! funny how the gov made us cacth every rainbow in the rivers kill every last one and never to stock them again as they are not native but the greys are getting left alone? and the rspca get to let them go wild if they have being treated... cute/bushy tail might be the reason, but the poor reds will be gone for good if some c**t don't step up!
