Belgian Malinois

Recommended Posts

I'm thinkin of gettin a Malinois mainly for guardin my property and for guardin my hunters and will be walked with the pack.

I've owned german shepherds in the past, including failed police dogs but i've now taken a liking to the malinois.

Does anyone on here own or have experience of the breed and give me any first hand advice/information about them.

Also can anyone recommend a decent breeder?

Thanks in advance

Well sod being a burgular in China Eh? awsome animals, i know a dog trainer that told me where a GSD will go round, a Mali will go through or over, such is their prey drive/determiation.

There are crappers bred all over the uk with certain lines being especially problematic, it's not really being highly strung as nervous bulldogs. Much of the original stock send over by US breeders h

Good thread , really interesting read for someone with no knowledge (ME) off these breeds and the work they do protection ect , ive heard all the "id kick it in the bollocks" before and thats bollock

An amasing wee dog, ive watched them in Schutzhund trials and they are full on dogs thats for sure.

Bulldogman might be of use as i know hes in the working circles and hes always aproachable.

Good luck with the search, im a massive Mali fan, IMO they show simular traits to Bull breeds in the tenacity / guttsy department and although i doubt many trainers / breeders will admit to it, there is a fare share of Bull blood running through some of the top strains.

Worked with plenty and my advice is don't get one, imported malinois needs constant mental stimulation and wont be satisfied either sitting in a kennel or being on a chain, they are good service dogs when they can have the edge taken off their mental and physical hyperactivity. They are NOT a beginner breed, and by that mean you had better have a a LOT of obedience and behavioural experience. They are too much dog as just a guard dog, the devil makes work for idol hands and you will end up with a liability on your hands............... One thing i must say is those that work day in day out with protection dogs will on the whole go for a well bred GSD, although these are hard to find, malinois impress the easily impressed, agilty and speed is impressive, but its not what makes a good pretection dog........

Seen them work in mondio ring a few times and also the first fella to import the real stuff was called John Rumble, spoke to John after he competed in a ringsport competition, his first words were dont come near me till i put the dog away, this was the same dog that had given him two overnight stays in hospital, so as i say not for begineers as they dont have the calm shut down mode thta is essential in a good protection dog imo, i hate the thought of the malinois being the next "craze" because they look 'ard and cool!! Bit like pure bulls, they are a specialist dog that should be left to the specialists, saying that if you buy one and in 12 months its a feckin liabilty i'll sort it out for £50 an hour...............

This is a clip from the line of shepherd i kept and worked............... May i also add there are a whole lot of shit malinois out there, same as any other breed, GSD's may not look as impressive, but does that really count in protection training, on the sports field there are no points for speed and in real life it means nothing, its about drive and control.............
