Guest Dale
Bullx for me I dont do deer but like taking old charlie on and have seen alot of dogs doing it but most are bullx's. Never realy worked with other x's much. My mate has a Kelpie cross that will do fox. all though i have never owned a bull x so i cant slate them , and wouldnt as ive seen them in action but of what ive seen they havent got the stamina to run all night , you may get 1 good run maybe 2 , i know there not built for speed , buh IMO the deerhound/greyhound 1st x is more than adaquate, and is all the dog you need , got speed , stamina , and brains , not to mention the build , after all the deerhound was bred for that purpous. im not sayin ill never get a bull x in the future as you do hear good things and most people seem to be voting that way in this poll , so something as to be good about them somwhere along the line , i can only talk from my own experiances with my own dogs , which is deerhound/greyhound 1st x . ru_and_dill 0
Given that I've seen a pair of whippets bring home a brace of roe (before the ban, obviously), that salukis will go on for ever because they were bred to course gazelle over Persia, and the permissions tend to be just a wee bit bigger out there, that once you've seen a deerhound in action, nothing else can ever make your heart beat twice as fast, that anything with any bullx in it is always going to be backed in a head-to-head with Charlie, and that you can't go wrong with agood dollop of greyhound, isn't the answer obvious: The best lurcher for any job is the one that you own, and the one you should get is the one that looks out of the rescue kennel and makes those big eyes at you! Yours with 4 rejects, with everything from whippet/fox terrier to deer/grey via saluki/beddie and bitzer on the way, BtH Quote Link to post
brock 11
if deerhound x's were that good imo everyone would have them, but they dont, majority of people just have bullx or salukix Quote Link to post
Guest Dale
if deerhound x's were that good imo everyone would have them, but they dont, majority of people just have bullx or salukix in my eyes bull x's are more common to be honest , any 1 can cross a staffy or summit with a greyhound , and get a 1st cross bull greyhound , pure deerhounds are expensive , in my area of mates who run dogs im the only one who as a 1st x deerhound/greyhound. i dont know why people favour them to be honest there nothing special , my deerhound/greyhound will do anything any bull x dog can do , again its all personel preference , and as for the statement about if deerhound/greyhounds were that good ect , if bull x was that good also people would have them , .. there are alot of people who wont touch them , same as people wont touch deerhound x's . i know loads who only swear by colliexgreyhounds and have only ran them and not any other dog , people cant slate things they have not tried and tested , Dale Quote Link to post

lucky 578
i've clicked "other" because the best dog i ever owned for fox and deer was mainly collie cross greyhound. now if i wanted a dog for deer it would probably be saluki based, and if i wanted a dog for fox it would be a bull greyhound without a doubt, imo you cant have the best of both worlds you either have an excellent fox dog, or an excellent deer dog. some peoples standards are far lower than other peoples, and i would'nt class any dog as a fox dog unless it could kill as many as you put in front of it regular, 3 or 4 atleast. as with deer they imo are a true test of a dogs running ability and a dog that can catch them regular is a true athlete of a dog, (i'm reffering to roe).
