I read this article a while back and meant to post it up for funsies ... so here it is.

Also I reckon a few folks might want to write in to the reporter about his misinformation - I did but never received a reply.

POACHERS are the prey after police launched a crackdown in Padiham.

Officers have mounted a series of night-time raids around the town in an attempt to combat the illegal killing of deer and other wildlife.

Sgt Marianne Slater, from Padiham Police, said: “These operations are necessary to highlight the increase in poaching activities in, and around, this area.

“The operations, that are carried out with the assistance of the constabulary’s local wildlife volunteer, have so far served to increase the amount of vital information we receive and gather while engaged on the poaching operation.

“This assists the neighbourhood officers to identify potential offenders who are illegally poaching wildlife.â€

During one of the raids, officers caught two people killing a deer. They were given reprimands.

Further operations are set to take place in the coming months to deter criminal activity.

Sgt Slater added: “We will be looking at people who are rabbit baiting at the moment.

"A lot of it is seasonal and it all depends on the time of the year as to what people are doing.

“The targets for the poachers are changing all the time, so we need to be looking at that.

“We have a fantastic wildlife volunteer who is incredibly knowledgeable and that helps us a lot.â€

Recent poaching operations have also focused on illegal fishing at night.

What, pray tell, is 'rabbit baiting'? I'd like to know who the knowledgeable wildlife volunteer is :censored:

I thought it might be that as well Gaz. But it proper winds me up that the police are using the word 'baiting' to stir the pot.

I saw a group of arseholes near me once, dropping a rabbit on a field which is across from a row of houses and next to a kid's nursery. Cars were slowing down to watch. When the lurchers were done with it they let the terrier rag it into bits. On a bright sunny afternoon for all the world to see.

I wanted to beat them with a big, heavy stick. It's twats like that who fuel the fire for dumbass articles like this one.

I've heard of badger baiting, but rabbit baiting? Vicious little buggers these rabbits.

Actually, it reads as though the poachers are putting rabbits out as bait for the deer.

Two men caught killing a deer get a caution? :whistling:

I think that's very likely what they mean mate, regarding people playing into their hands, well in thirty five years of hunting in one form or another I've never known as many fukwits in the game as there seems to be now.

Is it even possible to volunteer to be an 'expert'? :hmm::whistling::laugh:

Wonder what the 'experts' qualifications are...
