Would someone be kind enough to tell me what 3/8 and 5/8 are as percentages....and if possible how you work it out...

Is there any reason why lurcher breeding is spoken of in fractions rather than percentages ? cheers

5/8=62.5%

3/8=37.5%

It's always been worked out in fractions gnasher16,for example a first cross is never reffered to

as 50% collie and 50% greyhound,it's always half collieand half greyhound.

It's easier to work out the breeding in fractions the more different breeds you have in the mix,

as you just go from halfs to quarters to eights and even sixteenths.

For example.....1/4 saluki..3/8 greyhound...1/16 bedlington...1/16 collie..1/8 deerhound..1/8 bull.

would be..25% salukie..37.5%greyhound..6.25% bedlington..6.25% collie..12.5%deerhound.12.5% bull.

I don't know about you but I think with the fractions it's easier to work out,but that's only my opinion.

someone tell me this if you mate for example a 1/2 cross bull greyhound to another 1/2 cross bull greyhound would the pups be classed as half crosses

Yes would be my answer,i've seen them advertised as bull/greyhound 2nd crosses.

Most of us think 3/4 breds when we say 2nd cross but in this case they would be 1/2x1/2 bred.

yes the pups would be half crosses but they would be 2nd generation half crosses, i'm also inclined to think a 3/4 bred dog is a 2nd cross(1st cross=1/2 1/2, 2nd cross= 1/4 3/4)providing the 1st cross as gone back to a greyhound :victory:
