Moll. 1,793
First night out in about 2 months thanks to the continuous deep freeze and snow here. You can imagine the young dog has been climbing the walls, so when Woodga phoned yesterday morning to say a night out was on the cards that night, there was no hesitation. At the last minute Woodga was unable to go, so it was left to me and young Toni my lamping apprentice and navigator extrodinaire to keep the girls on top. Toni took Woodga's Typp, and i took Rude boy. It was like daylight last night, and the fields were sodden through, but there was a good wind. The majority of the rabbits were staying close to the edges, and these were few and far between, we were walking field after field without seeing any in places you would normally get a fair few runs. The ones we did see, could see us coming a mile away so really long slips were in order. I am completely head over heels about Rudie, this lad is turning into everything i want in a lurcher. One slip was at least 250yrds, you could barely see the rabbit at the other end of the field about 10ft away from the wall, not a slip i would normally consider but the way the night was, if you did not try you did not get. Slipped Rudie who followed the beam as if he had been doing it for years, there was no way he would have been able to see the rabbit as it was squatting low. No hesitation straight down the beam, the rabbit lifted and he was on it in a flash. Another slip was over a fence into very short grass, the field went up a hill and i spotted a rabbit squatting low about 150yrs up the hill. Sent him over the fence, straight up the beam, picked up the sitter, turned about and without missing a beat, straight line back, up over the fence back to me. His first over fence retrieve with no hesitation The night was cut very short though, young Toni started to have trouble with her breathing so, back in the car and straight home, with these weird viruses on the go and her asthma i did not want to take any chances The end of night photo was taken when i got home, so no Toni or Typp in the picture. Phoned this morning and Toni is thankfully fine now, still snoring in her pit :lazy: Toni and Typp got 5 out of 7 runs. Rude boy got 10 out of 12 runs. The girls did it again, whilst the lads stayed at home nice and warm 2 Quote Link to post
