Keeps 403
What most people don't realise is that it was the Labour government that set the ball rolling to bring this about. The Higher Education Funding Council for England (known as HEFCE) have always "topped up" the student fees to cover the real teaching costs involved for each University student. In March 2010 (whilst labour were still in power pretending that they supported Education - remember B LIARS "Education Education Education" promise) it was announced that this funding was to be withdrawn - Universities and Further Education Colleges have been in a panic about it since then, offering voluntary and in some cases involuntary redundancies to their staff... I work in a University and know that staffing has been dramatically cut. For those that don't believe it the proof is here. http://www.hefce.ac.uk/news/HEFCE/2010/tfund.htm We are all suffering now from Labours years and years of overspending, and it is a fact that the countries finances have always been in better order under a Conservative government. Students are protesting about the fact that they will have to pay the real costs involved in teaching them at University level from 2012, and not the previously subsidised cost (which up to now has been borne by you and I, the taxpayer). Edited to add: Chinese students pay full costs involved in their teaching, and currently subsidise the home students fees - so its hardly surprising that they are being targeted in the current climate. Nik_B 3,791
£3250 a year is peanuts and no where close to the true cost of education. I think it is justified but certain courses i.e. ones that lead in to jobs that aren't particularly well paid teaching, nursing etc should be ring fenced and subsidised. More people will apply and the unis will get to chose the pick if the litter, or they can do what they did for secondary school teachers and pay part of their fees once they've done the job for x amount of years. Also it wont be 9 grand a year except for degrees that are for the elite of the elite....average will be 6 grand a year. What this country doesn't need anymore of is middle class kids who are just their for a jolly wasting tax payers and parents money on utterly pointless courses of which there are too many. It's abou time they started to put a bit of thought in to why they are going to uni in the first place and think about what kid of career they are going to get out of it. 24 grand of debt over a life time isn't very much especially if you are earning decent wages. Those that never earn more that 25 grand a year will have their debt wiped. I was watching the news and they interviewed this girl who was winging and saying that she can't afford to go to uni now. First of all anyone can still go, you just gotta pay it back after u start earning 25 grand a year....second the girl had a face full of piercings and looked a right state...she wanted to study literature (pointless degree) and go on to be a teacher.....yeh looking like that? I don't want my kids taught by some crustie freak that looks like that! Any finally...not one person who is at uni now is going to be affected....so all these 'students' are smashing stuff up for nothing....
artic 595
Those children need to get back into the real world. Education has never been free and never will. Who's going to pay for all the damage caused by those children? Us! Well done kids.......

Bulldogman 55
If the students are going to have to pay the real cost of their education will i get a tax rebate.........i doubt it? Funny how England can have fees but Scotland doesn't? I never went to uni but believe that we should pay for it from our tax and students shouldn't be saddled with debt. Most kids from lower working classes will be put off whilst the middle classes and above will still go on their gap years and 3yr jollys before landing good jobs through the old boy networks. Yes dump the stupid courses and concentrate on those that will give our kids the edge. Poor education means poor prospects for the country. If the country's finances are so f****d stop overseas aid, stop taking in aslyum seekers (economic migrants), bring our troops home and put them on our borders. When my moneys tight i dont give to any old charity, i dont feed and house freeloaders and i wouldn't travel round the world to meddle in others affairs whislt my own house is being plundered.
