  1. where did you keep them? Are they easy to keep?
  2. Yes I know what you mean. My dad always said that if you had a Spaniel, you were classed as a Beater. If you had a Lab then you were a Gun. Even though the best dog me dad has ever had was a springer called Joe, there was nothing he couldnt find or pick up. He used to be sent in to retrieve when all the others couldnt. Like i said in my OP, all ill be looking for is a Dog that will do the Job, not after a trial dog, just a good hardy retriever.
  3. I think they are totally correct!!!! I think we should stop killing every animal for food. Where is the need to kill animals for meat when you can buy them from the magic supermarket where the prepackaged meat "Just Appears" lol Bloody barbaric this is lol
  4. excluding the usual after shooting cleaning ive never took the action off the stock before on any gun. can you recommend how and what i should be using to de-lube, clean and re-lube??
  5. I was out claying over the weekend and on the last trap i shot the first and then the gun refused to shoot the 2nd. I assumed it was a misfire so unloaded and popped another 2 in. Then neither would fire and my trigger wouldnt even pull. Took it to a mate of me dad who is a gunsmith who took it apart, had a look, did a few hmmms and arrghs, fiddled with a few things and then sprayed some lubricant and got the pins firing. He said it could be something to do with the components not being polished like the more expensive guns and friction has eventually took its tole. Anyway everything s
  6. Everything is coming along nicely now. Put them in for a few days then fleshed them. theyre back in now for another couple of weeks. Had a few issues with the pelts tearing slightly when i was peeling the flesh off but not too bad. looking forward to seeing end results
  7. I always remember the first time I put my mates Jill to my Hob. Never bred before that so didnt know what to expect. I was reading up on how you know when they're ready etc etc, my dad always told me when it comes to "nature and animals you will be able to tell and they will sort themselves out". When i say my Hob in season i realised what he meant and also with the Jill as im sure everyone know what im talking about. the sounds that were coming out of his cage were..... Interesting at the very least!
  8. I have always just put them in and let them sort themselves out, wont take long.
  9. What were the requirements for getting on,did you get to interview stage or were they just looking for applicants who would fanny around on the verge of starvation and make for good TV. I applied with this online form which you had to answer loads of questions, then i got a call from someone asking more questions but then it ended there. Ye thats probably it, i said that i have had some experience in survival, trapping, killing etc (to a degree) which is probably why lol You should have expressed an interest in lentil-knitting,bespoke mlnk-hair underwear and extreme morris dancing,t

  18. Right im no where near this stage yet but i just wanted to get a few opinions from the experienced guys. Im thinking about joining together my pelts when they are finished to make some kind of rug but i assume the question would be the same if i was to make anything. Im just wondering if people would recommend shaving a little bit of one of them, put leather glue, then over laying another etc etc. or doing the same but stitching instead of glue. or shaving bother pelt, pinching them underneath and then stitching so there will be flaps underneath? If stitching is the way to go..... W
  19. Cheers for that pal, much appreciated. Looking forward to getting cracking now, first stuff i ordered never came so had to order from someone else.
  20. Hi all, Ive got to the point in my life that im fancying a Lab. Ever since i was a little one ive had Springers, my dad mainly had Springers, so when it comes to Springers i am alright. But when it comes to Labs I aint really got a clue. Ive been talking to a few people but thought id see what opinions i get on here. Not at any point am i after a trialing dog but i dont mind trialing blood somewhere in the line. Im after a straight working dog. Ive heard that somewhere along the line people put a collie to a lab for some more brains and then stuck to labs so all that is left now
