  1. Hello guys The hw 77 is still very new and I would have to say it feels a bit twangy if that's the term. My mate has a hw97 and it is well broke in but solid and in vgc and it feels a fair bit sweeter. I have been using his 97 a lot and bonded with it but he was never going to sell it so I ended up with the HW77 which feels real nice if a bit new. The scope on the 97 is an old Tasco FAC rifle scope and is much better than my one and the total package is well sorted and good to use. I need to put the time in to get the 77 shooting nice. I hope there is some other springers that will top t
  2. Hello guys I got very busy with work and the end of the Tax year but I am back on it with the springer. I have the Hawke scope lined up and getting in the barns after work trying to get to grips with the HW77. It's not as easy as I thought it would be but I am having fun learning. I have plinked more holes in plastic milk bottles full of water than I can tell you but shooting skemmys is much harder but more rewarding.
  3. Well it ended up being a HW 77 new in the box that Rick bought from Castleford gun shop that he found heavy because of a back problem. I have had it down the gun shop for testing and a Hawke scope. I hope to get it shooting straight this week but work is keeping me from it at the moment, I am working hard but thinking about the gun and will not settle myself until it is shooting like the 97 which is 10 or more years old and has an old Tasco scope that is spot on.
  4. Pellets, don't mention pellets, got to the van after work to try out the new scope and guess what. No flippin pellet what a plonker I left all 3 tins on my desk at home lol.
  5. When I go to the gun shop some things just say buy me, I could end up with a shed load. Big hammer for big nails and a little one for panel pins. (well I am a carpenter) no not the singer lol.
  6. It just seemed like a good tool for in the barns, quick easy to use at shortish distance.
  7. Sorry stingray I have seen in you other post that you already have a Hawke HD. The hd was recommended to me as a go to choice of springer scope that was good for the money but when I was looking myself I noticed Bushnell Rain guard HD and I was going to spend what it takes to get a good sight but the gunsmith said he only recommends what he would buy and he uses the same scope as the one I bought. H e could have easy had me in the 250 mark but felt sure I would get good use out of them for hunting even in low light. The bottom line was he would sell me what ever I wanted but if I wanted a r
  8. I have spent weeks fretting over my choice of springer which turned out to be a HW77 and after a week of using it I know it will be a keeper. Thing is I was in the shop today to try and get my mate started by trying a few guns and for me to get a scope which I did. I had a few shots with I think it was a Hatsan break barrel big bore barn blaster that was light and short and I think I will go back and get it. Am I normal or have I got a screw loose because I think I am becoming a gun tart.
  9. My new hw77 was mid 10s on H&N sport field target trophy 14.66 gr and a week later and some 70 pellets later it was tested today with Bisley magnums not sure of gr weight as they were not mine and it was the same mid 10s, I said what would be likely to take it over and the gunsmith said RWSHobby are what the Police would be checking with so he put some through and it jumped up to 11.5 so I was pleased it was no higher. The hobby was 11.9 gr.
  10. Hello stingray I got a Hawke HD 3-9x40 today and a one piece mount. It is a mil dot with illuminated cross hair in red and green. I will be taking it to the long shed for fine tuning and I will let you know how I get on. This is a value scope so you would have money left over. Please note that I am not an expert but there will be one along shortly.
  11. Not necessarily! What makes and types are most likely to produce the highest readings. I was thinking that a light pellet would leave the gun faster but the chrono would be set at the pellet weight so it should even out. I was told of a case where a gun was tested 20 times and were all in the limit so they just kept going and managed to get one at 12.1. I was also told that the owner of the gun was of interest to the testers and the gun was taken away. I don't know if he got it back. The Police have to deal with a lot of things that are not very nice but it sends shock waves when you h
  12. That's great Rick The imp was on my short list and from the man himself, will you be going down in person. I would say that is a result for both of us.
  13. Hello Rick it was nice to meet you and thanks again for the HW77. I hope you get a chance to check out the HW99 which is the light weight choice of full power springers.
  14. A thank you to Pianoman for recommending the Hw77 and a thank you to Rick for this lovely new 77 still in the box. I could of reached a hw100 but really wanted a top notch springer first. I need some sights and I am away up the fields. I have had good advice from this forum so another thanks to all the guys. Cheers Mike.
  15. Well for what it's worth the quality and feel of that hw 100 will haunt me until I get one but think I will end up with more than one springer. I am now the proud owner of a HW 77 and can't wait to get out and shoot with it's iron sights. I think the hw100 is worth saving for and look forward to owning one.
  16. Hello Rez Just so you know there is no such thing as end of just 50 shades of grey. I am sorting a good springer out before I add a HW100 as I don't have the spare cash to get both with scopes etc at the moment. When the guy give me the 100 to show me how light it was compared to the springers I thought yes I am going to have one of these. Do you think they are good guns ?
  17. I bet I am not the first person to be on the brink of buying a good springer only to be handed a hw100 that feels as sweet as.
  18. Good point. I think I will try to get another loan gun to keep me going as the HW97 has to go back soon and I need a bit more money for bottle sights etc.
  19. Hello there sorry to hear it's heavy for you. Was it second hand and has it got my name on it lol.
  20. Tim I think you are spot on so need a cheap hw 77 to fill the gap and keep saving.
  21. I was in the shop today looking at springers and after load of back to back testing and getting just about set on what to get the conversation strayed onto weight. Not my weight because I have lost 7lbs in 6 weeks but the guns weight, and then it happened. The b*****d said try this hw100 They say you know when you pick a gun up and all your alarm bells start ringing, he said I will put that back for you but wanted to keep hold of it and take it home. Good job I had not been to the bank for a wallet full of readys because I wanted to keep it. Thing is I feel like I must put my time in
  22. Hello guys I am just back from the gun shop and spent some time with the gun smith who was a top man and talked me through the process. I think I would be daft not to support there local shop as they would be on hand to keep a gun in good order and trim the power if I thought it was creeping. I will get a chrono of some sort to keep an eye on it. The HW80 range that I was using in the shop was 11.4 so would give a bit of leeway for creaping but he said that he would check it again to keep an eye on it if I wanted. this has given me some confidence to buy from them. If I get my other tw
  23. Hello guys I have just got back from the gun shop where I spent a bit of time with the gunsmith. I used the air arms pro sport back to back with a HW 77 and 97 and soon ruled out the pro sport, after having used the hw97 the prosport was harder to load and cock and the cocking action of the under lever was not as final et the end of it's stroke. I could not get the safety off a couple of times as it was not fully cocked. This would get better with use but I have been spoiled by the 10 year old hw95. The standard length HW77 was a good fit with me but could not tell weather it sounded louder
  24. This is indeed a word of warning, I can see the first mistake having an un bagged gun in a public place. I no about that one. The fact that an FAC owner was prepared to try to sell an FAC in that way is incredible. Buying second hand from someone you don't know is a real risk, I think I would only buy second hand from a gun shop.
