You can't train a dog to mark mate, by encouraging it at dens,earth's or warrens you can teach one to false mark, encourage them and a pup will mark to please you. Tricky with a coon in a high den in a tree, but a dog should be able to pick up the scent on the tree for a good while after a coon climbs it, my bitch marks trees for squirrels the same way, she's never wrong, if she indicates its always up there somewhere, even in the drey, when they mark the best encouragement is results, if she marks i do my best to nail the squirrel, i don't see why the same approach wouldn't work for coon's?

The thing is it decimated the Dales so not many left in a lot of areas to repopulate, but that should only be a matter of time, in the long run i think they will come back with a vengeance, any carrying VHD would be the first to die, and deserted burrows should mean less fleas to spread myxi, the survivors should be good stock animals? Lets hope so anyway.

A big area of the dales has hardly any rabbits.....even there the rabbits have been getting less and less. Sure, there's pockets of them where there's loads, but i think we'll see even these contract and vanish over the next decade... The Dales rabbits took a hammering from myxi/VHD and 100 bags a day/night for years and managed to keep their numbers up, but the two consecutive bad winters a few years back finished them off. A mate told me rabbits were running round in their village after coming down from the higher ground during the heavy prolonged snow, just nothing for them to eat,

I dropped a few locally to build the numbers up, and some new genes don't hurt, told the local lads, and asked them not to ferret everything out, give em a chance like, bumped into some lads from another area a few months back, and told them we'd all agreed not to ferret, and they said "ok mate, we'll just have a walk with the dogs" then i catch em ferreting a couple of weeks back

You mean working hard on schemes to rip people off Mush, like PPI, or helping the rich hide their money and not pay tax like the rest of us. Without the public bail out they wouldn't have a job to get a bonus from, no bonus until they paid the public back, and made a profit on their own merit in my book, but then again that would be more ripp offs on the public.

I'm beginning to think that's the point of this programme Socks, it shows the general population just how hopeless they really are without the modern technology/system to support them, your average sheep will take one look at this and count their blessings i reckon, suits the agenda of some people imo?
