  1. looks absolutely stunning. think i may cook mine like this!! looks very yummy! Only issue is i dont think nana will eat rabbit and i cant eat a whole one myself!
  2. Have had a read through. think i need to buy some books so i know what to start growing when. Im going to try potatoes in bins, but i would also like to try tomato plant, cucumber and maybe a pepper. I cant grow peas as i have nowhere i could place something for them to grow uo.. may try carrots growing in pots too..
  3. the hutch will be on concrete, having a separate run i will put them in and take them out of. they wont have access to it freely.
  4. I love longhaired weimaraners, think they are stunning! not sure on people working them though. I havent had a gundog yet, i want one just not got room! if i and when i can i will either be having a flatcoat or weim!
  5. i did think about a curry, only problem is i have no idea how to debone the rabbit! could be fun!
  6. I currently have a small rabbit in the freezer and dont know what to do with it.. I have tried rabbit before but never cooked it for myself. it was given by a neighbour and is already skinned and gutted. Usually when the lurcher catches she has the rabbit split with the other dogs (i dont work her alot at the minute, but am looking to get her out more this season!) So any nice reccommendations would be good, I've had a look online, but wondered if anyone had any personal favourites.
  7. No one in my immediate family enjoys hunting, working dogs ferrets etc, so I have no idea where on earth i get my love of hunting from. My great uncle used to be a gamekeeper, but he wasnt someone i saw alot or had a big influence in my life. So just wondered, are you into it because you have always done it, gone with the family, who generations before have always gone? I went foxhunting (when it was still legal) to form a view, everyone kept asking me and i said i couldnt say as I had never seen it being done. I went the once and absolutely loved it. It got me well and truly hooked!
  8. Im going to start growing all my own veg i think wont have an allotment though, and not much grass in the garden, so im going to have to grow things in pots.. no idea where to start but this thread has inspired me!
  9. Thanks for the replies. I am in the middle of building a large two tier hutch for them and they will have access to the garden area too. I am aware that jills stay in season yes. I still think two jills is the better option as i have heard in alot of cases the hobs fighting. Think i will definitely stick to feeding raw meats, I can get plenty of variety for them, I imagine i follow the same sort of diet as the dogs? % meat, 10%offal and 10% bone?
  10. I would love to grow my own vegetables. I have no idea where to start though! no real idea of what is in season when and the best time to grow certain things! If some one could help me that would be brilliant! I dont have alot of room, and ideally would be looking for things i could grow in big pots, as nana wont appreciate me growing things in her flowerbeds, and there isnt much room for me to have my own spot. What is the best for me to start off with? I dont have access to a green house either, although i have looked at those little plastic things you can get, are they any g
  11. She just hadnt had any training when i had her and was in the teenage phase so was a bit of a pain!! her recall is fine now, she does have the odd time where she will come towards you but not let you catch her collar (thats the saluki in her!) but other than that she has got there eventually! she is generally obedient, good in the house and with the other dogs and cats. she is brilliant around livestock too. shes been my first hound and my first dog that has a stubborn streak and has certainly been a learning curve but i absolutely love her!
  12. just thought I would introduce my girl. She is my first lurcher, I took her on when she hit 12 months old. she has been an absolute pain in the arse! but i adore her, and she is a cracking dog! she is saluki x bull greyhound.
  13. how awful for you Run free Blue.
  14. Cracking photos! Mine loves going after rabbits! can not wait for hunting season to start come september! must post some pictures of my girl!
  15. just outside of macclesfield, more or less on cheshire/staffordshire border.
  16. absolutely gorgeous pups!! and i love lurchers with more white on them (mine is blue brindle and fawn with just a flash of white on her chest and toes) yours are lovely =) I will be in the market for another pup soon.. not just yet though!
  17. I think i would like two jills ideally. I am thinking a hutch with two floors and lots of shelter but space for them may be my best bet. As for the diet my dogs have a varied diet so would be no issue for the ferrets. easily get beef, lamb, chicken, turkey, duck rabbit, heart, offal etc. I think after doing nutrition at college I would prefer to raw feed rather than dry food. Where is the best place for me to source ferrets from?
  18. no dont mind you asking my age! im 23. I had a private lesson at a shooting school but wasnt too keen on the instructor. I still go up there to shoot but go with friends (older than me and shooting for years and years!) I have tried trap, but prefer the sporting.
  19. I have recently taken up Clay pigeon shooting. I absolutely love it! I am currently using a 20 bore over and under, tried a 12 but was too heavy for me to shoot consistently with! Just wondering if any of you have any tips for me? I get told so many things by people that I dont quite know where to turn! Also alot of the guys put me off, because they do the typical "you're a girl, girls cant shoot" and it really knocks my confidence!
  20. I am interested in getting some ferrets. They have always fascinated me, and I think they are wonderful creatures. Just looking for some advice really! I would like to work my ferrets (have access to land) but if not I am quite happy for them to be pets. I know alot of people keep groups of ferrets or at least pairs, is this best for them? I would ideally like two. Better kept inside or outside? I currently live with my Nan, and although she would let me have them I dont think she would let them live indoors. Is this an issue? What's the best to feed them on? I feed my dogs raw
  21. Hi, Just thought I would introduce myself, as I'm new here! I currently live in Cheshire, with my 2 year old lurcher, Roxi (who my username is after!) who has started work on rabbits, but also seems to think squirrels are fair game!! I love my hunting and have been out on foot and helped whip in for a pack for the past 3 seasons now, and can't wait for the next season to start! I plan to get out riding this next season too. More recently I have begun shooting, starting off on clays, currently shooting about 60%, only shot 5 times so far, but I think it's safe to say I am hooked!
