  1. If and when I have children I will make sure they live an oustide life. Im only 23, and cant believe kids nowadays! when I was about 12 i ended up with a terrier cross that no one wanted. every weekend I would get up, get the dog and go out all day. We would walk along the canals, in the woods, build dens, try and fish. It was the happiest time of my life. I look at my brother who is whiter than white because he doesnt see the sun, has muscle wastage because he doesnt exercise, just sits and plays games on his computer. I cant believe my mum has let him become that. As an adult I am out all th
  2. these puppies are gorgeous!! think i may have fallen in love!!
  3. They judge on the dogs confirmation and movement. check teeth etc. Ive got the bug now. I was at Peover game and angling fair, and shall be at Manifold on saturday
  4. I have some venison steak chunks and want to put them in a pie, but unsure of what other meats i can use to put in with it as i dont have enough venison. so any suggestions? plan on serving pie with creamy mash and red cabbage, yum!
  5. I could do with finding someone near me who goes out with ferrets so i could see how its all done.
  6. Absolutely stunning dogs! Ive got a soft spot for pure saluki. My girl is saluki cross.
  7. Showed my lurcher Roxi at her first show on sunday. Although she didnt get placed we were in a big class, and considering she had never done it before, she was so well behaved. Let me move her feet about and position her. she moved well too. only thing she wasnt too keen on was the judge touching her bum and she sat down! Its certainly given me the bug to show her more anyway! also a cheers to the young guy who convinced me to have a go!
  8. Really interesting read. I would like a pig or two if i could get a bit of land. so its good to know!
  9. I think it is scary that children just dont know any more!! I am only 23, and some of my friends naievity is ridiculous! I dont have any friends my ages as such that are into the whole shooting/hunting thing, and trying to get them to eat game is a chore! i dont bother because its wasted on them! They cant seem to get over the fact theyre eating a fluffy bunny, and it really riles me as they dont seem to know or care some of the awful conditions commercially farmed meat is kept in. I am slowly trying to be more self sufficent, and grow my own veg etc. What meat i buy i try and get from a reput
  10. That sounds gorgeous!! going to give the pie a try definitely!
  11. I like to slow roast my pheasant in my slow cooker for a good number of hours! i put all the root veg in with it as well. big chunks of carrot, onion, and some potato. yummy!
  12. just give her time. I have only just let my lurcher start catching. took her on at 12 months old and she had no recall, no basic manners at all and was a general nightmare. So i had alot of work to do with her before i even let her get working.
  13. see thats not bad at all! think pet plan is the way to go, my bitch is 3 this year.
  14. I feed my dogs raw meats, and they are getting alot of variety at the minute. I started off on minces, and try and add chunks and things in for them. they have mince wise, tripe, beef, pork, lamb, pheasant, game, venison turkey, duck.. they get whole lamb hearts and chicken hearts, as well as chunks of rabbit. they get bone wise chicken necks, chicken carcass, chicken feet, veal necks etc. They have had pig trotters as well but they didnt go down too well! And do really well on raw food. I switched all my dogs 3 years ago now and they're doing brilliantly. It costs me less to feed them
  15. Anyone have flat coats on here? They are my favourite gundog breed, and i am determined to own one one day! i used to work for a lady who had 7 and they are cracking dogs! used to love doing dummy training with them in the fields. Now i have got into my shooting and owning a gundog could be a possibility, hopefully it wont be that long until I can have a gundog of my own!
  16. cracking pups! love that last white dog! unfortunately I cant have another one just yet!
  17. shes constantly doing things that worry me! she always cuts her legs as she catches them when she is running, i can deal with those but dont fancy paying for a break!
  18. i think pet plan may be an option for me they seem to offer a good range and the price isnt too bad. she definitely needs some form of insurance otherwise i can see her costing me a fortune.
  19. ahh right.. can you keep two hobs together or not?
  20. Nice dogs!! especially like the Black and white!
  21. How many of you have yours insured? I havent but keep thinking i should. She's so accident prone, with general cuts and grazes. Yesterday she tried to jump a cattle grid and ended up getting her front leg stuck in it! so easily could of broken it. And I couldnt afford to fix it! so do you insure? if so who with? if not what other plans do you have in place?
  22. Took my lurcher and chinese crested on a walk yesterday (covered 10.5 miles in total!) nearing the end of the walk she decided to go on one of her mad zoomie sessions, was running round then as she turned she yelped and then went off her back leg. She seemed to put it down and walk on it but not fully, so Ive just rested her and she seems fine this morning. Given her some extra glucosomine in the form of some chicken feet which helps with joints etc so she should be ok! God these lurchers no how to worry you!
  23. It was meant to be a serious question. as i wonder where people get their passion from. Like i said no one in my family hunts, enjoys the countryside etc and I often wonder if its just me that randomly got into it one day, when alot of people seem to have a family influence.
  24. thanks for all the replies. the hutch will be off the floor and on legs, having other animals (rabbits and guinea pigs, years ago mind!) i know to keep them off the floor. the run im going to have will be moveable so they can have a bit of time on grass and concrete. Certainly alot to think of. If i had a jill spayed does that affect their working ability? (sorry if that sounds stupid!)
