    Thanks for the replies guys. Im interested in getting a terrier to start working with, will probably have to wait till early next year, but Id like another lurcher first. That kennel set up is very smart blaise!! will see what i end up with and wether i end up with a little kennel and run set up!!

    I have a saluki x bull greyhound and shes a cracking dog. Shes quick, strong and will catch what you put her on. She can be a bit stubborn now and again (definitely the saluki in her) but i wouldnt trade her for the world. She's such a versatile dog and doesnt put a foot wrong.

    She's a lovely little pup. good luck with her. My lurcher is 26" TTS so quite a big girl! I reckon looking at your girl maybe she will reach about 24" but like people have said with her bad start, and the rate at how quick shes growing you never know! Cant add much more than what other people have said. get her on a good diet (i feed mine raw) and plenty of socialisation. My girl comes everywhere with me more or less if she can, she's very laid back and well behaved (for the most part!!) Be aware that they can become food theifs and like to get their paws on anything!     when i get my little terrier (want another lurcher first!) it will have a little kennel and run space outside next to the lurchers i think!

    Think I'd rather have kids like yours than some that are about nowadays! Im determined if and when I have children they'll be brought up to love the great outdoors!

    What do people think to dogs being kept with a kennel and then on a chain? I've seen this done before too. Think I prefer the kennel and run idea over a chain.

    Thanks thats the plan. it didnt really matter her having a whinge at the other halfs as there are no neighbours! but at mine its a completely different story. having her from a pup would of been miles easier i think, i took her on with a whole host of problems at a year old. she's a cracking dog though and taking everything in her stride, and I was going to do similar to your suggestions with giving her a good run and then feed her in there to start with and slowly get her used to being left in longer.

    I didnt "feck around" thank you. I got the kennel and run so that she is outside when no one else is home. I was merely pointing out the fact when she was left outside completely she was alot more responsive to my commands.

    i used to work with flat coat retrievers and they were all kept outside in kennels. I do love flatties!

    I have no problem with them in the house and do enjoy having them in with me. But I think she will definitely spend more time out there, she does prefer to be out if she has the option. Can't say my dog smells though really!!

    Can anyone give me some good coat recommendations? out with the hounds on foot every weekend through winter I need a decent warm, waterproof coat. I dont mind paying, but dont want extortinate prices! Im only small, size 8 maybe a 10 with a fleece on underneath. So any ideas?

    I will introduce her to her kennel and run slowly. she was left outside at the OH's for the simple fact she was quiet and obviously content, and we didnt see the need to set all the other dogs off! I will see what i decide to do, I dont mind her being out during the day whilst im working, not too sure overnight yet. they only have access to two rooms downstairs anyway.

    If and when my OH ever decided that marriage was a good idea I wouldnt expect him to wear one. He's a farmer, and I have heard of some horror stories of getting rings stuck on equipment and losing fingers!

    No wont do them any harm. mine have whole ones now and again. Gives me a laugh watching them roll them round working out how to get into them!!

    No dont cook the mince, feed it raw. And work the food out from the weight of the dog. the general rule of thumb is 3% of the dogs body weight per day. google raw food calculator. you can put the weight of the dog in and it will tell you guidelines of what weight to feed each day.
