Hi, I'm 14 (15 in September), and I was wondering how old I have to be to get a shotgun certificate? Neither of my parents currently have firearms certificates or shotgun certificates, also I live on a 40 acre farm and have used shotguns quite a few times before. Can someone please help? Thanks

That's great, well done

To avoid the flies coming to the raw meat in the summer, you could give them the food in the evening when it gets a lot cooler

Nice shooting, do you need a kind of licence or permit type thing to shoot in residential areas? Guessing it was residential

Why Isn't My Larsen Trap Working?
CharlieSlade replied to CharlieSlade's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I wanted to keep the traps small so I could move them by hand to different places on that farm, I'm trying to get a call bird at the moment, but thanks anyway -
Hi, I made this larsen trap a month ago to trap the magpies on our farm due to them taking our hens eggs and also for generally being a pest. I have placed it in areas where there is lots of magpie activity and it has been set off once or twice but never caught. Please correct me if I have any obvious faults in this trap which I don't know about Thanks

I really like the finish on the rams horn, did you have to buff it up and polish it or give it a coat of something?

Larsen Trap
CharlieSlade replied to Heyford moles Pest Control's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
If you have it on legs make sure the bottom of the trap can't be seen through because then the magpie might try to attack from the bottom to get at the call bird rather than through the doors -
I know I don't know how to remove one of them, and yeah I know we're catching the train, 5 and a half hours

Since then it has been changed to the 25th as well because my mum called to ask if they could rearrange it as the 4th is my little sisters birthday, just hope the weathers good in penrith whilst it's going on

Is "against Corvid Traps" Breaking The Law?
CharlieSlade replied to CharlieSlade's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
"On rare occasions they can be found in private gardens where some people mistakenly believe trapping magpies will prevent predation on garden birds' eggs and young" they have no grip on the reality that magpies mainly eat other birds' offspring. -
I was just scanning online for ways to catch the first call bird, when this caught my eye. Is www.againstcorvidtraps.co.uk persuading people to trespass on estates seeking for larsen traps? It may just be me but I thought it looked as though the website is condoning trespass and going into shooting grounds to seek the traps? Could someone share their view on this please? Thanks

Hi I don't suppose anybody in the mid devon area (crediton, yeoford, copplestone, spreyton, bow) has a magpie I could have? Thanks

Because the springs were only £3 but the postage was £4 I thought I'd get another just incase I needed them, £4 basically for a letter!!

Got a little 95p one from my local gun shop and it's just as good as my other more expensive knives, also if you loose it it doesn't mean you've lost your best £45 knife

The best time to ask is earlier in the year and give them your adress/phone number, then if they say the rabbits for example are under control at the moment then in the summer when the numbers start to dramatically rise they most likely will call you up/knock on your door and ask if you're still up for it

You could put it on a raft, shooting times had a 2 page article on mink and stoat trapping

The Best Way To Gut And Skin A Rabbit?
CharlieSlade replied to Jesse White's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
If you're field dressing it then better to squeeze the insides out through the backside, to avoid having a big slit to get dirty. Start at the ribs and push hard and firm towards the back passage, there's some youtube videos on it to give you a better idea and a quick method of skinning if you're not aiming to keep the pelts -

If you go on Facebook and there's a page called the corvid exchange where you can receive and give call birds on, I expect there's somebody near where you live who'd be happy to help
