LDR... you're in the same boat as me mate.. with a grand to spend there's only one body to cosider... .... CANON 7D!!... for the serious wildlife/sporting amatur! Let me know where you find it cheapest!!...
-
Hi Skycat, just had look through all my old photos, and looks like i've deleted the few that might have been of some use.... would have been nice to return a favor or two .. shame really seeing as my bitch has had all your looking for over the years.. cuts and slices, stiches and staples, knocked toes, endless stopper pad injuries and pulled nails to name but a few! hindsight ay!!.. hope you find what you're looking for.. atb with the book..

Here you go SNAP SHOT, http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Canon-Lenses/ , thorough reviews on all canon lenses, and sample shots too! hope it helps with the decision, only advise i would suggest is to put quality before length and that all important big aperture... for action freezing shutter speeds on days when the lighting is less than ideal.... f2.8 is a godsend! not sure where you stand budget wise, but the 200mm 2.8L looks a heck of a quality lense for the money! -
Problem with pic quality
Bush Rummager replied to undisputed's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
Have you checked you're getting a fast enough shutter speed on those pics mate? not accidentally knocked/changed your shooting mode? I'm not familiar with Nikon gear but some of the latest Canon lenses have 2 modes of IS, one mode for shooting still subjects and the second for panning.. not sure if that could be somthing to look at? Let us know when you get to the bottom of it!.. -

Wildlife photographer of the year comp '09
Bush Rummager replied to Bush Rummager's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
Othickman.. , thanks for putting the link up, last i knew it was still being investigated, glad it got exposed though (pun ), shame really, goes to show there's crooks in all walks of life, especially were money's involved. Thinking about it they must have taken a hell of alot of shots before they 'nailed' it' tweaking all the variables along the way hindsight eh.. Sean.. well spotted! the pic in the original is the handy work of a mate of mine, he's grafted the head of his pet chocolate Lab onto wolfy.. pretty good eh, the 'real' (if thats what you can call it) wolf pic is in the li -
Unexpected visitor.. cruising about in the background, shame i couldnt closer to the Kestrel though..

Great shot..

Cheers for that, thats one hell of a lense you've got there! must be a fair old lump of glass!! Look forward to seeing how you get on with the 1.4, think my next purchase would probably be a body upgrade.. at some point in the future.. top kit is just so fooking expensive.. P.S had trouble logging on for the last two days..
-
Thanks for that, intresting reading.. Wich Nikon body do you use? i'll admit now to knowing nothing about Nikon gear.. being a total novice and all that, but the 450d i'm using is only an entry level body, so perhaps thats somthing to look at?... thinking about it, might just know somebody with a 5d body to do a bit of testing with my lense/converter combo. Like the point about picking up A 300mm 2.8, surley that would solve all my problems... but not for £3k pluss!! .... not for taking piccys of my two mongrels and ducks down at the local ponds!!... if i ever get to go to the Golapagos
-
Cheers folks.. the body is a 450d wich is a 1.6 crop (i think), so i am actually getting that bit extra length, i'll hang on to it and give it a fair crack of the whip but if things dont improve then, yep, i'll be swapping it for the 1.4 version, will i get any auto focus speed back by switching to the 1.4?? cheers..
-
Couple here using my new Canon extender 2xII (curtacy of the bearded one ), only been out with it twice.. still not sure what to make of it to be honest, lost quite a lot of focus speed, seems to hunt for ages somtimes.. and obviousley lost a few stop aperature wise (now f5.6 right through), .. but then again going from 200mm to 400mm does come at a price i suppose... ah well.. Two diffrent Robins by the way.. This one is right out at 400mm f6.3.. This one 350mm f7.1... both stopped down a tad to try and gain a bit more sharpness... Still learning all the time! so any comments/advice
-
Thanks for all the comments folks , sorry i aint been keeping tabs on this, been away for a few days... maybe i'll manage some more 'decisive' piccys in the future... Here's one from a from a few days ago, diffrent part of the country though... any offers?? (ha, only kidding...)..

Lovley shots Kay, like the swan... nice and sharp

what alloy's Dont worry about it Lakeman.. , i showed that piccy to my missus, said.. " can you do that.. naked.. but layed on your back, and hold it for .. well, almost 3 minutes?? of course, she wasn't having ant of it! but then again they do call her Sharon Stone!.... (Sharon seventeen Stone)!! .... I've got to stop coming on here when i've had a bag of winegums.. ..
-
Come on folks,.... say what you think, all opnions welcome! i'm hoping and praying its a Gos! Must admit as it drifted overhead for those few breif seconds it bore no resemblance to a sparrowhawks usual flight path of hugging the contors of the land and swooping up over hedges, but, then again, could the same be said of the Gos?
-
Managed these couple of snaps a few days back, only in view for a couple of seconds, zoomed right out and cropped quite a bit.. o.k, my fiver is on it being a sparrowhawk, but these were taken right beside a large forestry block, and there are Gos's just down the road from here, so.. the question is, how do you distinguish a Sparrowhawk from a Gos at hight when trying to scale them is soooo difficult?? Look forward to your replies.. ... ho, and a couple of the truffle sniffers putting their noses to good use.. have a good one.. ... ..

Bush Rummager replied to Bush Rummager's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
Just a quick thanks for all the helpfull replys folks , tried endlessley to sort cs3 out my self despite some behind the scenes work from ghillies,.. couldn't get on with picassa... brain cell overload! managed to get someone to update the cs3 for me and show me the ropes to processing RAW files.... NIGHTMARE!! I've gone back to shooting Jpegs untill i've a bit more time on my hands.. Help processing RAW files..
Bush Rummager replied to Bush Rummager's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
VERY, VERY helpfull indeed!.. .. just what i was after.. Just in from work, so i'll be straight on it later on when i've had my five hrs shut-eye! Cheers for that Stoaty and JD, thought Stonechat, typed it in above the piccy, but then deleted it before i posted! cant say i,ve ever seen any around my neck of the woods.. that was taken on the Pembrookshire coast.. -
Long story short, started shooting in RAW a few weeks back, but the problem i've got is that the editing software on the P.C ( Adobe CS3 ) wont recognise the RAW files , so cant get them onto the P.C!... also the disk drive is K-put so that rules out installing the supplied Canon software Really need to get these piccys off the memory card and onto the P.C, P.D.Q as i'm hoping to use some of them as xmas presents! The clock is ticking and i'm starting to sweat! So any suggestions, ideas or links to downloads for the right software would be a lifesaver, appreciate anything folks!... Oh
