Just to make people aware... Might be a little help to a few I’m these strange and financially hard times https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-mots-for-cars-vans-and-motorcycles-due-from-30-march-2020

3 from yesterday... Jackdaw, Kingy and water rail...
-
Quality that... The kingfishers caught some canny sized fish in comparison to their size and chuckled at the bear - didn’t look too steady on its feet ?
-
Nice one pal, that’s a cracking offer and I will have to organise a day when the lighter nights start kicking in and the owls are more active as should be starting to feed up for breeding season about now... Lets know how you get on with bait and trailcam ?
-
That’s a new one on me but may just give it a go... I take it the blades of grass make a mouse like squeak ???
-
It’s very interesting behaviour- more so feeding off the pheasant... Yes, once they find an easy food source they’ll more than likely return if put out in same place regularly especially in rainy and cold spells... I’ve done it with frozen mice from the pet shop but proved quite expensive at £1 each and the magpies soon cottoned on to a free meal if input them out in daylight,I had to go every night which ended up being a chore... You get many owls on your farms/permissions ??? I’m always on the look out for locations to photograph them and don’t mind an hour or so drive...

Yes mate, attached a good size perch/branch to a stake/post, cable tied pheasant to perch, open pheasant up to display meat/guts, placed a £3 Wilko close prop about 5ft away and attached trailcam to it - simple... I was hoping for buzzards but without success.... I know at least 2 pairs of Tawny’s are in the area but never known them to feed off pheasants although in a different location I did the same but with rabbits and had a Tawny come in for 3 nights in a row for a good feed... I use the trailcams to help me with my photography, to find what’s about and what’s active etc -

Rained off at work so went in search of Short Eared Owls this afternoon, had the pleasure of watching 2 hunting but sadly always keeping their distance and conditions were very dull and overcast making photographing them even harder...
-
Put a trailcam and a roadkill pheasant out a few weeks ago in the hope of attracting buzzards - to my amazement the only bird that has come to feed off it is a Tawny Owl which has been in 4 nights in a row... I thought crows and Magpies might've had a fill but only the Tawny...
-
Put my tawny and kestrel boxes up last month, nothing yet but still early... Had plenty tawny activity on trailcams feeding on roadkill rabbits and pheasants I’ve put out trying to attract buzzards... Will be putting some boxes up soon for woodland birds, I’ll keep the holes plugged up on a few until the redstarts and flycatchers make an appearance and hopefully get them nesting in boxes.
-
They look top notch pal, you make em yourself or buy them ready built ??? Fingers crossed you get some residents.
-
Kinkell - how lucky you are to have such a garden and location with tremendous birds to watch from the luxury of being at home... Bell - that’s cracking stuff, hopefully they’ll return again this year and this time use the box you’ve provided ?
-
Spotted fly is a cracking bird to have in the garden and especially using one of your boxes... Nice one. I’ll be putting some smaller boxes up soon on the farm, will keep a couple blocked up for when the flycatchers and redstarts start coming in ?
-
As some will know I do a lot of wildlife photography, trying to benefit wildlife and myself I built a Tawny Owl box and a Kestrel box which will be going up this weekend on a farm I have permission to do so... (just need to secure a branch/perch to each box front) Just wondering if anyone puts nest boxes up for any kind of birds, whether on permission or in the garden ??? If you do or have, what kind of birds and have they been successful in being used ???

The Beauty Of Nature, "add Yours"

I spent christmas morning sitting in -6 degrees (was very mild for time of year) photographing wild red squirrels in the Cairngorms... Delighted with this image and it's rarity for me but this one will be getting mounted and framed for my home...- 702 replies

Spent christmas in the Cairngorms so it would've been rude not to photograph a crested tit... The only keeper i got from an extremely dull and overcast day...

Ah that’s a shame mate, mind last time I seen them near me was 3 years ago but this year there has been good numbers coming over... I was fortunate to have a flock of 80+ only 3 streets away from my house and the Rowan trees are full of berries but won’t be for long the way the waxwings are stripping them... Looks like it could be a good waxwing winter this year so fingers crossed you might see some ?
-
Waxwing today - all the way from Scandinavia to Northumberland
-
Female blackbird with her eyes on the berries..
-
Thank you... Get yourself your the Peak District or the Highlands of Scotland - you’ll se plenty ?
-
They’ll be far easier to spot in their winter pelts, might take you up on your offer in the new year buddy if it’s still open ?
-
Here’s a mountain hare sporting it’s winter pelt, I spent about 7 hours with this individual last year in minus temperatures and a biting winds, heading up again this winter and hoping for snowy conditions.
-
Once again Arry, very kind buddy... There as so many wildlife and nature photographers that far superior to me mate and it’s a super hard industry to get into, for now it’s bricks and mortar with photography as a hobby for me but I will keep taking photos and keep posting them ?
-
Ah buddy, that’s such a compliment and confidence booster and much appreciated but as you’ve just shown in your images, it’s not always about the fancy and best of equipment - you’ve proven that with some cracking detailed photos ? The main part is being out in the fresh air, appreciating the wildlife and enjoying what’s there whether it be in the garden or out in the countryside or the likes... Keep em coming pal, atb Andy.
