If you don't get a good kill shot , I guess you could do both

Just going to pop a note, I don't have mange…as best as I know. No direct contact with the fox, as I always use gloves when handling foxes. It's just a concern I have. Mange is scabies…and that's some nasty crap to deal with.
-
Quick question on Mange. If you've just shot a fox and brought it back, then when you're about to skin it you notice it has mange. Do you panic, or is there a way to defend against mange? Last thing I want is mange in the house. First I was panicking about fleas, and not mange. Not fun. Thanks for the help.

Just looking around at different scopes and mounts to try out, and I came across the issue of suitability on certain objectives. Then I thought…what the funk?! I now have options like 53mm objectives and others like 67mm or something like that. All I want is a lower profile scope mount for a 1 inch scope for a crumby dovetail rail. What's all this objectives crap mean?

Single enough, what are the rules/laws with selling rabbits that you've shot with an air rifle/rimfire/shotgun? Whether selling to a butcher or friend, info on both would be good. Thank you in advance.

Want to skin it and pop the hide in the post for me? haha Great shooting. They do some hefting damage and can ruin small ecosystems. Bet you're well chuffed, I know I would be. I must confess, I first looked at the picture and thought "F*** me that's a BIG RAT!!!" then I read what was going on. Makes much more sense now haha

This is a fun one. I've seen guys go from springer to PCP and be shit hot! But I've also seen guys go from PCP to springer, and just be plain shit. Which is best? Which ever you enjoy the most. I personally love my springer, and a little CO2 Ratting gun (I love this gun) and I'm happy with them. Did have an Ultra for a while, but sold it. Was always worried about damaging it, and a few other things. Damn right it shot well, but once it was dialled in, my wife, nan, or even one of the dogs could get great groupings with it. Okay, maybe not the dogs. For me at least, the challenge (and there

Wife's purchasing me some new boots too! Woo!!! -
This came up in another thread, and I thought I'd pop this into it's own thread as it's a good question. If you're bagging rabbits, how do you stop any flees from them hopping over to you? Anyone got any tricks for that?

Love my home build. Total cost was well below £100. Now that I have an upgraded light, I'm only just below £100. Can do about 85% of the purchased digi-NV scopes. Only issue is, I'm too lazy to try and upgrade it any further. It more than works for what I want, so keep it how it is.

Been discontinued, but I managed to get one before they all ran out. Good game bag Yeah! That bag, but as a backpack! I can't stand the single stap shoulder-bags. I think I'll do a little combo of what everyone's saying. Jack Pyke backpack, with a wheely bin liner, and I might even wrap up each bunny in a Tesco bag (Waitrose, because I'm a snob haha). Sounds like a lot of effort, but I am happy with that. Great info. Thanks everyone.

Never tried eggs. But I've heard a lot of ingredients with it. You're basically removing the oils from the skin, and replacing them with 'organ oils' e.g. a brain tan uses the oils from the brain. So the idea with eggs is that you're using the yoke along with other ingredients, e.g. soap flakes, to load the skin up with new oils. I'll check some of my books and get back to you with recipes. But bare in mind I've not tried anything but brain tanning. To brain tan, you just get the brain, mash it up in a blender with some lukewarm water, then paint it onto the underside (non-hairy) of the hi

Absolute stunner! I love the dynamic jump on the stoat. It's half nature half parkour. Really cool look, and you've caught the chase feeling spot on! The backward tilt of the ears on the mouse, and the straight tail really depict the panic and speed on the mouse. I know it was probably a simple effect, but the straight tail for me really make it pop! I would ask how much, but the vegetarian wife means it's a no-go :-(

You would want Borax 20 Mule for that. Get some friends from America to pop some in the post for you. But that's best with split tails. For unsplit tails, I'd go with meths. I've been working with a few foxes recently to try and get it right, so these are words of experience (well, I'm telling you what didn't work for me, although someone of more skill could probably get it to work right haha) but Borax ("substitute" as we're in the UK) isn't too easy to get into the very tip of a whole tail. If you're talking the tail, then you're not going to be able to guarantee you've gotten all the salt o

Is that the 25L one? The reviews say nothing about the inside of it, whether it's easy rinse/wipe clean or what. Army bergen is a no go. Great idea! But for this situation a bergen would be way too big. Lots of woodland to get through from one section to another (if taking a short cut and not walking around the woods). If I was out getting deer, I'd definitely go with the bergen, but this is a more 'low profile' only a few rabbits, kind of thing. I thought of this too mate. Only issue...nosey dogs. The reason I have to hide the rabbits is dog walkers. So a pup sticking its nose in

Really weird question now. My new permission doesn't like the idea of leaving dead rabbits around…surprise! However, unlike my other permissions, the farmer neither wants the rabbits, nor does he care how I dispose of them. 3 hungry dogs, and my latest desire to learn to properly preserve an animal fur, are enough to deal with that issue. The only problem now is, the new permission is near a lot of public paths! So when I've taken out a rabbit, I then need to keep it with me. Any suggestions with this? I can't exactly slit behind the tendon, hook the legs, then carry them on a stick 'Tom S

Just thought this might help a few of the members on here new to ratting. So here is a load of information, largely random and unorganised, that I hope will assist you with your ratting. First off, using a bright light like lamping for rabbits will really not work. This technique will show you lots of running rats, and nothing where you're going to get a clean shot. Then they'll not come out for the next 15-20 minutes. However, nightvision should not be your only viewing system until you know the area. Confused? Yeah, it sounds odd, but read on. In my experience if you quickly scan

Yeah, I know that feeling. All too well!!! We've all spent hours out with NV, waiting for rats, seen one, it's seen us, and it's gotten away, we then just sat there and waited, and waited, and waited. We could hear them, but they weren't coming out to play. Then your friend text you at 4am saying how many rabbits they've taken out that same night. We call those nights, Tuesday's and Saturday's! haha I'd hate to shoot by a hot tub! Too scared I'd pop something and have to replace it. Have you tried bait to lure them out?

Another Permission, Celebrate With A New Jacket

I'd guess 4 pages of double sided A4 in really small print. How dare you! It's only 3 pages of double sided print, because the print is that small! haha If it's the actual waiver of liability, I used to have long drawn out crap my cousin wrote up for me. Working in the legal field, he was my first port of call. But not much fun going through it all. So when I came on here, I changed the wording a lot. Now they look like: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/234652-permission-papers-waver-of-liability/ Like that, but without the cover letter. The simpler the better. No far -
Another Permission, Celebrate With A New Jacket

Yeah mate, like a .22LR and Shotgun! -
BASC. Not sure about 'professional cover' as in "I'm doing professional pest control as a business/job" cover, but if you're just looking for general shooting insurance as a hobby, definitely BASC. They're probably able to do the professional side of things, but that's beyond my level of expertise.

Another Permission, Celebrate With A New Jacket
RemyBolt posted a topic in General Airgun Discussion
Finally!!! Persistence has paid off. The permission I've been working on has come to fruition! It's literally a stone's throw from my front door (okay, more like 2-3 minute walk). Permission papers signed, a copy for me and a copy for the farmer. Very excited as the land has apparently been unworked for a while and needs sorting out. So I decided to celebrate by buying a new Jack Pyke jacket. Just thought I'd drop a note to everyone looking for either their first permission, or a specific permission that they've been working for a while…keep at it. This permission was 2 years in th -
Oh my goodness! I have been put to shame...as usual. I'll be checking out the AA's soon. Have been getting best results from Accu-Pell, but without trying AA's, I can't say what's best or not. Back to ratting. I'm over excited when I get to see 40 rats, let alone get off shots at them all. Actually the way things are recently, I'd be happy seeing 10 rats. Best haul I've had recently was 33, and that was a crazy fun session. Since then, I'm getting like 3 to 5. If you need a hand there, pop me a message! haha, I wish. Awesome shooting mate.

Word perfect answer. If you've got a dog, get walking it on the footpaths around the area and get to know local people. They can be a good route into the landowner's circle of trust (network). If you have a chicken farm near you, offer to help with rat control. ALL chicken farms have rats.

Advice On The Law
RemyBolt replied to the lamping ferreter's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I think a pinned post about "Don't be an idiot with a gun" would be a good idea Maybe, but how do you get the idiots to read it? All the information is there at their fingertips but they can't be bothered to find it, if they do find it they ignore it! If I had that kind of skill, I'd be a multimillionaire!
