i did hear it was hard for target shooters to get mods years ago. but its ok now. you would think it would be better if the police did grant it. not only for peoples hearing safety. even though you have to wear ear defenders on a range. but also the people that live close to these ranges it would benefit them with less noise

put down whatever you want mate. as long as you have good reason for them the flo will soon tell if you have.

the answer to the question is yes a 22/250 barrel wont last as long as a 223 barrel. but a 22/250 barrel will last 1000's of rounds and even when they do drop off on accuracy it will still be more then enough for foxing. to be fair anything that still groups 1 inch is good going. there is lots going aaround about shooting out 22/250 barrels but i would say there isnt many people that have shot there's out. inless your doing a hell of a lot of shooting. or some guy form the usa that is shooting out in the varmint fields where there barrels get silly hot. keep the rifle cleaned right. do

safe and legal to use you mean ? no it wouldnt. its wouldnt do anything if it didnt have any insides. and second and the MOST IMPORTANT THING you cant use a mod on your rifle if you havent got a slot to use one on that rifle no matter what insides it has.

great nights foxing over in herefordshire
jamie g replied to jamie g's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
yes was a very good night lads. i did ask my friend about the nv a friend of his built it for him. cost him around 600 pound. to buy the same spec in the shop or form the guy that built it would prob come into around 1600 pound. to be fair i wasn't keen on nv to start with. even though i no its good i just perfer to lamp. but after watching it put to good use in the field on those shy foxes you can call them in abit in total darkness. flick the lamp on and get a chance to shoot at the foxes you might not get with lamp alone. i couldnt aford to buy one but if you have the dosh to get on -

hi mate its gen 2 + bino's i dont no there spec there my friends. i will ask him. they are very good they can see a fox out to over 400 yards pretty easy i would say. with the ir on. if foxes are lamp shy its great in the dark using nv and the call. i no for a fact the last one we had if we had gone in the field he was in with lamp on he would have gone in a instant. but the night vision then the shock of the lamp on got him still enough for a shot -
my mate dave asked me if i fancied a night out fox shooting again over his permissions in herefordshire. got to daves around 7pm we loaded up the 4x4 and set off. the night was perfect not to cold but a little bit of chill in the wind. cloud over head blocking the moon and just enough wind so it wasnt dead still. nothing worse when its dead still and a fox picks up every noise. the wind gives you a little bit of silence which is helpful. we set off down to the 1st permission that we went to the week befoe. but couldnt get onto it as the gate was padlock. and dave couldnt find the book wi

i had all those 3 on 1st ticket. as long as you can state why you want the 3 there should be a problem. fac air for vermin around the farm and in the trees where you wouldnt use rimfire. 22lr for vermin on the ground and hmr vermin on the ground but at longer ranges. you could also state you like to use the 22lr at night as its very silent. and in the day when you want more range the hmr is better as you cant allways getting to range with the 22lr in day.
-
i use to think a shy full of moon was crap and one night i had 4 so cant be that bad. i still perfer not to lamp when the moon is full in the sky as its harder to stay hidden. if your against a back ground like a hill or tress its not so bad. but out in the open its hard. if you can see down the fields on a full moon. what can a fox see ! alot more i betting. the best nights have been very dark and a sky full of cloud with abit of wind. for rabbits they say when its very windy its not that good. one evening i went out with my mate. i didnt take the hmr as i didnt think many rabbits w

hi guys my old man and i are thinking about selling the m595 tikka 222 we have it has been cut to 18 inchs and threaded m14x1 by richard pope of swift percision rifles. [ we had it cut to this length to use as a truck gun and keep the weight down for my dad. 18 inch's is ideal length if you want a compact 222 as it doesnt use that much powder and using reloader 7 you can still keep the fps up with short barrel the stock and action are in superb condition. the barrel has a little wear but the rifle shoots spot on here is a 4 shot group at 100 yards with reloaded ammo we use in it.

dept is just as important as size. as your find your scope will touch the back of the cabinet. look at the djs safes. ive gont one and there great. what i would say is by the biggest you can aford mate. your be surprized how you will want to add more riflewhen you got a fac

Electronic powder dispensers
jamie g replied to Grousekeeper84's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
i did think about getting one but after my mate had one then sold it he went back to beam scales. he did say it was pretty accurate but wasnt 100% sure in it. so got some rcbs 505 scales and the target master powder trickler -
yes try them mate. i thnik there go well. if they do then go snap them up for that price. £9 for 20 is very good for factory ammo
-
any 22cf is a proper foxing tool as long as you put the bullet in the right place. my choice is the 22/250 though
-
dont be worried about giving them a ring to ask mate. just say you are ringing to make sure they got the forms. say you no there very busy but could they tell you if they got there ok as you hadnt heard anything from them about a visit
-
you should easy get those speeds with a 26 inch barrel. im betting if you get the mod on the rifle you will stop the flash anyhow.
-
hi mate what lenght barrel have you got. if its pretty short then thats why your getitng the flash. the powder isnt burning up in time. also have you got a mod on the rifle this will help cut down the flash. you could try reloader 15 43.5 will give you 3700 fps out of a 22 inch barrel. that is top load so if you do go above work up slow !

recomendations on variation
jamie g replied to valleyshunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
223 is a good choice. factory ammo for 222, 223 and 22/250 in the top brands are all about the same sort of price. its ok using the cheap ammo for the 223 but alot of it isnt that good. also alot of it is fmj which cant be used on deer. and not the best even for vermin ! ive got 222 and 22/250 both have there use. im hoping the law for roe will be changed then i will keep my 22/250 as 22/250 when the barrel has gone. as i only really have muntys and roe round here. so thats all i need. imo if your doing alot of foxing only 243 uses more powder for the job of what any 22 cf will d -

Rifle cut for thread variation and sound moderator
jamie g replied to halloween man's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Just wondering, how does it take too much meat off the barrel? You might be bringing the diameter down a fair bit, but you will still end up with a safe amount of material around the bore. As to it looking weird, I see where you're coming from with that one, but most of the time it'll be hidden by the mod! have you seen the size of a m18x1 thread to a 1/2 unf my winny is almost 1 inch at the crown a 1/2 unf would look silly on it. a big thick barrel like that with a little thread doesnt seam right. yet if you look at the m18x1 thread on it. it suites the profile of the b -

Rifle cut for thread variation and sound moderator
jamie g replied to halloween man's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
well most mods are that and the thread is more then strong enough to cope. i think a 1/2 unf on a heavy barrel rifle looks weird. and imo takes to much meat of the barrel. but they are handy due to being the most popular thread
