  4. the deerhound looking dog is exactly what I'm after, does she run rabbits ok in small fields or needing a run at them first? A big dog will surprise you mate, they arent as slow off the mark as people think. I'm new to this to be honest mate and I prefer the long rough coated lurchers and the taller ones and most people seem to be saying there ok on the rabbits which is all I'm after that and being a good pet to get along with my 2 year old daughter and our old labxcollie pet :-)
  5. I luv the look of the dog that's my ideal in the way of looks, there's plenty of rabbits hanging there for me :-D

  9. Thanks lads some useful advice there, lol thought I'd have got more stick for asking! I don't know any one who keeps ferrets so but iv found a lad off hear who lives local and works them so hopefully they should be from decent stock. If hell sell me some ill go see how he's keeping them and make a hutch similar and see how he feeds them etc and just copy. Iv been watching videos and reading up about ferrets and ferreting for afew months now and really want to get into it thought lads off hear should be the best people to ask because iv seen what some of the yahoo divies have wrote lol

  11. There completely different to terriers and lurchers and take a lot of repetition . I find there drive to hunt is strong it's just a matter of harnessing that drive and switching them on to the right things with a level of control if that makes any sense. In the short time I've been into them I've seen people come and go it aint easy but a whip, a horn, plenty of patience, a love for hounds and a good mentor helps. Oh yeah you've got to be relatively fit . hope that helps my auntie has 2 beagles just as pets they've always got there nose to the ground and baying and seem to have selective h
  12. That's a smart looki g net mate, I'm new to making them only done 7 3'6 nets, did you make this the same way but even patterns ?
  13. Ey iv got 2 air rifles me uncle normally comes with me but he dosnt know out about ferrets lol recon he'd come along when I get a lurcher and if I get some ferrets but i think its always better to learn off some one in the know especially if I get a permission turn up and look like a divie I'd probably struggle to find another lol
  14. It's getting some one to help u out is the hard bit mate people must either think there's 1 more person competing for permission or think ur gunna rob the farmer who's gave them permission, I understand people being suspicious like but it's hard to convince them otherwise :-&
