  1. Bit late to the party but have you seen a boneman or running dog specialist? I thought my bitch suffered a sprained hock november 2018, according to regular vet. She was on off lame the whole season but managed to do a fair bit, come February 2019 she was still having lame days after a nights lamping so got her to a greyhound boneman who diagnosed her with a tendon injury in her hock and suggested 6 months rest before it severed. I bred her that spring whilst off resting and 6 months later no real improvement so went to a greyhound specialist vet who said her tendon was fine, the issue ha
  2. That's what I go for good banter, plenty of work opportunities for the lurchers, had a few accidental roe always a bit embarassing but as the keeper says it saves the cost of a bullet and goes in their fridges. As many pheasant duck and partridge as I want free plus lunch and cash in hand, gets lamping permissions and as far as keeper is concerned a good fox is a dead fox. All a bit of fun really. I attend 3 shoots which opens up doors for lamping permissions too.
  3. Can I guess who jcg is? Haha I saw a screen shot of those £45 kits. Madness. If I'm right he's one with beddy crosses that wont let you see then work... but £350 cash up front for a single lining. Sod that all about the £££
  4. Last season was 3 days on the beating line each week (mostly in slips for vermin control). 3 nights lamping. None of the shoots are going ahead this season so will get in more lamping I should think. We did the odd bit of ferreting too but rabbits are in short supply round here so had to travel for that. Prior to last season we'd only be on the beating line once a week. Beating itself is no real job for a lurcher it's just a nice walk out but no keeper wants those vermin upsetting the birds so dealing with them quietly as they run back through the line was her job. Beating was a free hot
  5. I agree on both points there, 100%.
  6. Precisely what I'm getting at; it's not the breeds fault but it seems to be becoming less popular as lads turn to bull crosses or saluki crosses, or mix of the two. I get a lot of jip for running a beddy cross because in a lot of peoples minds she will never ever be to the standard of their saluki bull greys. Maybe she won't but I and a few others know what she does and when you have a 24.5" 25kg dog doing exactly the same job as a 28" 35kg dog, I know which impresses me more. I think it's a shame that bedlington lurchers are going out of fashion apart from the beddy whippets that make g
  7. Cor thatwas a nasty one. My smaller dog gets dragged all over the place and despite how agile he is he regularly makes mistakes. It's like he knows he's fast footed so takes chances. Constantly in and out of the vets and gets through staplers like they're going out of fashion. Most recent one nearly cost him his manhood ?
  8. He's a nice pup but got an undershot bottom jaw otherwise I'd have been tempted to keep him myself. Sire was 24tts, beddy whippet collie deer grey x beddy grey
  9. Smallest bitch gone west to be the lurcher part of a bobbery pack, ferreting lamping and mooching dog. 22tts had a handful of rabbits so far
  10. Smallest dog pup think he's around the 24" mark, gone to a grounds keeper as his mower companion and pest control. Ferreting mainly
  11. Another bitch just shy of 24tts. This one is in a pet/ sports home so won't get worked
  12. Bitch a couple hours west of me, 23 3/4" had a handful of rats rabbits and h, she's really fiery. Gone to a gundog lad as his first lurcher, she'll get plenty of work from the keepers
  13. White bitch and black dog both went up country together. Both standing 25 1/2" and doing r r h d f already
  14. Well they don't seem popular as out and out everything dogs, 99% of what I see are beddy whippets that get out ferreting once a week, people that want proper grafting dogs tend to go down the bull x route because they can smash away all night and are heavy anchors to stop just about anything. I like a big bedlington lurcher but they are few and far between and most people don't seem test them like they do with bull xs on long heavy nights and coursing dogs on long winter days. Just about any dog can catch a roe I know a 9 year old boxer that did it and a springer spaniel that loves muntjac, ev
  15. Older sister of his white and brindle bitch that's 3 years old, dam of his young black and white bitch
  16. Yeah my 1/4 bedlington bitch comes out beating, we did 3 days a week last season on 3 different shoots, great nose for flushing birds and handy at picking up, only issue is deer numbers I can't call her off them so often work her on slips for pest control if anything looks like disturbing the game birds. Very handy bitch catches them in woods and open fields, keeps the keepers happy. Love it when she sorts something out and you get a cheer go up from the beating line or praise from the guns afterward haha.
  17. Real gutted and very last minute, my bitch was on day 13 so I had to find another dog as I didn't want to miss thst season, very happy with the 2nd option and the pups are crackers but I'd have loved to see what the original choice would have thrown
