    Mc Nab

I've been wanting to do a Mcnab for a lot of years hopefully next year .....up for first light to get your salmon ...then stalking for your stag and shoot a grouse after the that ....and if you didnt get your salmon in the morning then its back on the river
  6. for me I wouldnt take on anything after 12 weeks ...I am very particular in the way I want my dogs but thats just me and I cant take any chances ....imo the first few weeks are very important in moulding a youngster and I dont know how this pup has been brought up and have taken pups on that have been that older and it just hasnt worked out ....Im confident something will turn up
  7. I have found myself short for the first time in a lot of years ...I had 2 bitches sent to me this year both I would of had a pup out of 1 didnt take and one was a day or 2 late ...There is definately a shortage this year ...I was offered a very well bred dog pup last week but it was 15 weeks old and I need them when there young so I can get them the way I want them .and was offered another pup but just not what I was looking for ...ive got the feelers out so hopefully something comes up or I will struggle next season and be digging to other lads dogs
  8. You dont see much eels now adays up here anyway ....
  9. I have knowen the P...rs since I was a kid and to be honest they are not the main reson for the salmon stocks dwindling they are part of the problem and I have stuck up for them on many occasions but this past few years they have been taking the piss with regards to leaving leaders out at the weekend .....
  10. I have watched the salmon stocks dwindle since I was a kid in the 80s ....I grew up on the river North Esk and the river and the coast was netted heavily by J.J.johnstons and there was not much c&r in them days but there was also hatcheries ....the scientists can say what they want about hatcheries not working but I disagree ....you just need to look at the Icelandic rivers since they have re introduced hatcherys ....look at the DEE since they have removed the hatchery ....If you can get the young fish to smolt stage then protect them like we do with our "smolt shepherding"...once they ar
  11. I will only kill fish if they wont go back Neil ie bleeding at the gills or if someone wants a fish which is usually about 4 or 5 a season out of 50+....I agree catch and release works infact anything at all that helps salmon numbers as they have everything against them seals ,coastal nets ,sawbills ,pollution etc etc ....but I never ever feel guilty about taking a fish as I can honestly say I put in the hours to help the salmon stocks on my river with the licenced saw bill cull and smolt shepherding .... That is the scottish government banning coastal netting from next year so that can on
  12. Not the biggest fish by any means but this fish sticks in my mind for the fight it gave me ...It was fish no 12 for the season last June and I had noticed 2 fish showing in a lie between 2 rocks at the tail end of a pool called Bailey Midleton ...I worked my down through the pool and cast square with an upward mend to get the fly to skim right past them and bang it took the black francis right off the surface ....I thought I was into a decent seatrout with the way it fought and took me to the backing a few times ....but when I landed it ...it was just a normal looking salmon that had been in
  13. A few more memorable salmon taken on the single hander
  14. Not frienda of mine but local idiots from my old area who havent done a days work in their life would honestly post photos of themselves on facebook with a few thousand in cash. Wasnt too long ago a firm got done cause the bloke had a photo of him with 250k cash the prick. Makes you think though if idiots that stupid can earn it, us folk going work maybe were the stupid? lol. Loads who would give it they hate grasses seem to be fine with grassing themselves up. Everyone wants to be famous these days
  15. George Digweed and Andy Crow have good results with the magnet but maybe they are not as experienced at pigeon shooting as you Leslie
  16. Another crakin fish 18lb on sea trout tackle again with my lucky ghillie
  17. Maybe you are not useing them properly as I know plenty who have great success with magnets
  18. They can work well heres a vid taken on my phone from last month 125 the first day over 100 the second day but only pick 70 something as a lot landed in uncut rape and 168 picked on the 3rd day .... If magnets are used a lot in an area they will become wise to it ....but overall they are a good bit of kit to have and I have seen birds coming in from quite a distance....I often use a magnet and nothing else and when roost shooting I sometimes put one out just to bring the birds over me and in range and it works well
  19. The lads I fish with had 32 for the week last week not as good as previous years we had over 50 this week last year .....Thats probably cause I wasnt there ..a few double figure fish and a 19 pounder http://www.fishpal.com/Scotland/Esks/Reports.asp?dom=Esks Im back in Oct Matty give me shout if you want a cast
  20. I left the Uk on the 31st of Aug so it was the first time in a lot of years ive not been out in the mud for the first morning of the season ....There are a few skenes of pinks starting to show in my area now, I hear and by the time I get back on the 5th Oct there should be around 50,000 in with the number increasing daily until it peaks at around ,000 by late Oct .....Its quite a site seeing them come off their roost in the morning heading in all directions to there feeding grounds and an even greater site seeing them coming into roost at the same time with the sun setting behind the Angus gl
