I use this method when skinning lambs and sheep but I use a small divers bottle I have for pre charged air rifles ...put a nik at the knee on each leg just where you would start skinning

Nothing to do with fishing but on the subject of an animals stomach contents...I had a big dog fox in a snare about a month ago around a free range chicken farm ....the chickens lay eggs outside and I often find nests full of eggs ....the carcass was put in a midden and about a week later it had rotted away and there was a single in tact egg just behind the rib cage so this fox must of swallowed the egg whole

I said you don't need that good a nose ...and it certainly doesn't need that good a nose to mark rabbits in a hole that comes with experience ....its maybe you and not the dog that you have found it difficult to train a dog to retrieve maybe my nine year old son can give you some pointers on how to train a dog to retrieve....you have asked the question why and some experienced lads have given you their thoughts but your mind seems to be already made up so good luck with mediocre ...some of us want more
-
Agreed if it worked out it could of been a very handy baseline for some handy dogs down the line

You don't need that good a nose for most lurcher work ,most lurcher are easy to train to retrieve I have a pup that my nine year old son taught to retrieve at 10 weeks ,all my lurchers will retrieve rabbits live to hand , they have better feet that any gun dog I have seen ,...there is nothing a lab or a spaniel can bring to the mix and I have been around gun dogs since I was a kid ...but then it depends if you just want a mediocre lurcher
-
What can even your top gun dogs bring to mix ?

The roe rut seemed to have went a bit quiet last week then my young lad was out on his bike last night at the back of my house and had been away longer than expected so was sent by his mother to go and see where he was ... About 150 yards down the road I could see his bike lying on the grass verge at the side of the road ...panic set in then as I got closer I could see him in the cover looking over a spring barely field ....the wee fella was excited he had been watching a buck chasing a doe I must of got the story about 10 times describing how it's tongue was hanging out and how it was chasin
-
No mate you are the 4th person in 2 days to ask that ...he never got back in touch it all went quiet

We had a splash of much needed rain on Saturday ....I think he might make his height as he has good leg on him but I doubt if he will make Tiggers build .....if I have half the fun I had with the old lad I will be more than happy

It slowed last week but watched a buck chasing last night with the thermal night vision in some barley ....You are right I try and teach him the best I can ....have to get him his first salmon on the fly now he doing brill , deff talented young lad you have a great future with him, my lad liked it when my lurchers killed foxes in the lamp, he came few times when he was younger , but perfed football / women as he got older . i didnt think they still today blooded youngins today, thought it was old hat,! looking forward to his progress this season , he will feel your freezer

What I am saying is I can spy stuff with the NV and when I shine the plr500 I struggle to see it where I would of picked it up no probs the light force ....like I have said the plr500 is a good wee lamp and it will always be in the truck but it's just not cutting it for me
-
I Lamped with the plr 500 most of last season ...there is no doubt it is well designed and a nice wee compact lamp without the coiled leed and battery pack ...but for me it's just not cutting it ....it's ok for stuff close by but anything out a bit it just doesn't pick stuff up especially since using thermal night vision you know stuff is there but unless it's looking at you I would be walking by stuff ...I also don't like the white beam if there is any moisture in the air you get a lot of glare . I have rigged up the light force 240 and tracer battery back again What's anyone else's though
