Out for 4:30 a very calm morning with very little wind but what wind there was was spot on for this bit of ground ....parked the truck and made sure I had everything and turned the first corner of a small wood with a barley field on the left and could see the back of a beast who was feeding with its head down but could see it was a buck by its size and looked like a very big bodied animal ...had a look through the Schmidt & Bender as my new binos still haven't arrived and he lifted his head to have a look about and I recognised him as a beast I've been into twice the past few weeks ...the

I have had the weeman out a few times this past few weeks to get his first buck ....there's not many 9 year olds that will get up at 4 am . Called and stalked him into a few but I have not been happy with the shot or he has just been to short to see over the cover. There's a quiet little corner on some permission of mine that holds a buck every year and we saw one there last night when lampin ...the spot couldn't be more perfect there's a silage field that was cut 2 days ago that would allow him to shoot off the bipod .... that looks down on a small wood about 2 acre . The wind was spot on

I like Packham, but too often, his type want to go too far, on some issues, calling for a 'ban', on this or that ? (which i dont agree with, in this case),....but, the 'shooting estates', need to make sure their 'management practises', are CORRECT, for whatever their particular circumstances ? (some dont agree, with any 'large scale cull, of mountain hares', for example ?) Have you seen the population of white hares on managed moor land, They are thriving due to management and need to be culled on a large scale. People should go and see for themselves before shouting about somethings being wr
