Yes I agree, for larger dogs to much or rather to high to soon is not a good idea. But they can still be learned to jump over smaller obstacles young without any problems.
These hancock threads don't half drag on
Some very interesting points of view
I don't like the sound of some dogs choosing runs after a few seasons
Ive nothing against hancock or his methods infact I say best of luck to the man he makes a lot of his customers very happy but I would much rather source a collie cross bred dog from lines which have been tested for a few generations with lads who are getting out there and doing it week in week out season after season
The kevin and perry stage can be the most testing time even for the most experienced dog handler
PP I would learn a pup to jump way before 18 months other than that your on the right track
Since the ban there seems to be a lot more undesirables who have entered into lamping Seems to be the fashion to have a bull x a 4x4 sniff a few lines then go and abuse the countryside
Does it matter as long as there doing the job?
think your maybe missing the point, i imagine most folk are reading between the lines and getting a little hint of sarcasm
No sarcasm intended matey I am missing the point?
Its nice to know what is in the mix but fractions have never really concerned me that much Never really known that much emphasis put on fractions until I came on these hunting forums worker to worker has always been the most important thing to me preferably from a few generations of such if there line bred even better IMO
If I had to choose fractions it would be half cross more specifically generation half bull greyhound to generation half collie greyhound making them quarter bull quarter collie half greyhound preferably from a half bull dam.
I have had the pleasure to watch some righ
John Wick bred brother to sister 5 generations in a row and never once had a single problem. He never had a super star either but not one problem and he had the money to do it so he kept every single pup in every litter and hunted the hair off them.
Dan I am a big fan of line breeding don't understand genetics much at all though
