I use a brass one also , Found the brass at work , However i just measure my bank card and it is just the right width only a little short That is a oz bankcard , drivers licence You could use anything of the right dimensions B

Hey fellas Why dont you just knit your own , Its not that hard it just takes time , I made a couple of 50meter quicksets from sheet netting i bought from gumtree they work well But the one i made myself is much better Bernie

Just remembered there used to be a truck cafe down the bottom of buckland hollow called jimmy balls cafe or the like is that the same fella i wonder , from memory he was as mad as a cut snake But then that sums up 95% of heage hey B

Them names dont ring any bells , But it was a long time ago , My mam remembers family names better However i did go to swanwick hall school finished about 77,78 I got a email address from a mate in heage ,for a guy i hung around with at school , but for the life of me i cannot remember what he looked like Wouldnt know him if i fell over him I raced grass track and speedway from about 75 to 78 all over the uk , So was pretty much into bikes Cheers Bernie

I grew up in heage near ripley, Used to scive of school an go ferretin , left in late1980 i was 18 , i came to oz with my parents dad and i had a job here already , the rest is history ,, Still miss uk now an again Bernie

I made up some from 10m/m solid aluminium bar they seem to work good , Cost worked out to be 2 dollars each Aus, dunno about uk pounds Would be interesting if someone could weight a fiberglass one to compare, As that was my only concern that they could be heavier Have just weighed a 900m/m long solid one 200g Bernie

So 30 x 20 is going to be the first one then , Yeah over here in oz the holes i do , are mainly sand and if on a bank the top part tends to fall in , plus dogs diggin making a larger hole than normal I have started the nets by getting all the stuff in one place rings,twine,needle,tv remote,beer, ect cheers Bernie

Okay i am about to embark on making a double peg poke net ,, I will prob make a few to carry in the bag , For holes that have got big from dogs diggin around them And my question is how many meshs wide should i make it, and how many long, Cannot seem to find a answer searching this site Thanks Bernie

The last two ferrets i got hold of bit like crocodiles ,, What i did was give them puppy milk and when they are drinking it, I would stroke them when they are busy drinking, They know it is you took about a month or so but it worked Ferrets that bite = pain in arse Forgot to add if they get a good hold of thee ,, Blow down there nose they cannot breathe and let go ,, dont ask me how i know regards Bernie

That is good news ,,what a good ferry ,, About four of mine got out a few years back , The neigbours got three and i was missing a jill ,I was walkin around calling her and she came from under a shipping container and ran flat out into my hands , She had only gone maybe 30 yards but had been out all day B

We used to go in ambergate woods and come out at whatstandwell so we must have but i dont recall that name shining cliff prob wasnt paying attention,, their used to be the old wireworks (still operating then)just out of ambergate we would walk almost right through the factory ,it was right on the river derwent i think ,,They pulled water from the river to cool the wire i think ,, another place was around wingfield manor , we never had permission just went were we liked ,, I live near the dumbles in heage so didnt have to go far for a rabbit ,Fished for greyling in the river derwent in belper,,

Funny you should say that about curtain rings i was talkin to a old fella the other day 73 years old been ferreting once a week on average since 13 years old , And he reckoned they used curtain rings years ago ,, The ground around were i go in aust are mainly sandy coastal areas ,, Still miss the places i went as a kid around derbyshire Like has been said before you could tie nets with no rings at all ,, But its interesting as everybody has there own way of doin things b

Yeah for the main body of the net i use spun polyester,Drawstring is like a flat nylon cord,Ring is nylon What do you use ??? B

I was thinking the ring doesnt do that much , but it easy to tie the net to I prob should elaborate a little , I make injection moulding tools for a job , So i made one for the ring I have been using these for around a month they work very well ,, the twine used in my net is plastic and now the ring Bernie

I was making some purse nets and was having trouble finding a good 1inch ring in Aus , There was the usual asian quality rings around, but i was going to all that trouble hand making a net i wanted a little better ring , I had already spent about an hour on the phone trying to locate some and couldnt , I thought i will make my own so i did around 500off , They are strong and slip nice , and will never rust made from nylon 66 ,, Here is a couple of pics see what you think Bernie

I might just do that Bob turn it into a smaller net ,, Then make one with less meshs Thanks for all your input on this , As this is my very first long net , now iam guna have two Also it will give me some practice adding the selvedge B

Its like You can wear baggy trousers, but when they to tight, no good for things down there B
